(31,116 posts)It's almost like a civil war to them. Could Putin have totally miscalculated? What if Russian soldiers started just defecting and getting the hell out of dodge?

(1,935 posts)... with blue marks from a severe beating though. I just talked with some of the young ones in Moscow, and they are really upset with this silly war - and are not quiet about their resistance. The police have been violently collecting the leaders at their homes. But there has to my knowledge been no "disappearances" this time, or people losing their jobs - yet.
It gives memories from the demonstrations in Denmark against the Vietnam war, where the police attacked anybody with long hair. They also had fun releasing them in forests far away from any public transportation.

(54,534 posts)expert said that Putin is cut off from the real environment. He has no interest in his own people, even if they suffer enormously under sanctions. Putin gets his info from carefully selected Yes men. He doesn't follow the internet, TV, etc for feed back. He doesn't care how much his people detest him or are suffering under sanctions. He cares about Putin and no one else. He is DANGEROUS!

(76,262 posts)Ukraine 🇺🇦 war. Those are brave people who will pay a big price but they might very well stop the war and get rid of Putin too.
And maybe like E. Germany, Poland, Checksloviaka, Romania, and so on the police and military will
move over and side with the people.

(22,153 posts)These people amaze me. I have participated in lots of protests, and it was super easy. No question of having to ever pay any price whatsoever. All I had to do was go to wherever it was being held, wave my sign around, march (if that was part of it), chant slogans, and then go home again without a care in the world. Nothing to it.
I don't know that I'd have the guts to do what those Russians did. You like to think you'd have the backbone, but would I, really? I honestly don't know. I am in awe of anyone who is brave enough to do this, knowing that they may pay the ultimate price for it.
My har is truly off to these brave Russians.
