CAMDEN Gov Chris Christie isnt saying what hell do with a gay marriage bill, which Democratic lawmakers consider a major priority of the new session.
They have a right to set their agenda, Ill set mine, well see who gets there first, he said today in Camden . When forced to make a decision, if forced to make a decision on it, Ill make a decision.
In the past, Christie has said he favors the states civil unions law that was adopted in 2003.
Legislative leadership said this week that they planned to make the bill a priority in the new session. The announcement puts Senate President Stephen Sweeney and his fellow Democrats on the offensive and again forces Christie to take a stand on a delicate political issue.

Although we are expecting Christie to veto this bill, you never know what the ultimate outcome will be unless you continue to move the conversation forward.
Also, is anyone else not suprised that the argument used by some Democrats and most Republicans in 2009, that civil unions need to be strengthed, has completely disappeared from the conversation?
Over the last 2 years, not one piece of legislation has been introduced or been debated on how to 'fix' civil unions, that both Democrats and Republicans admitted were inadequate, during the debate in 2009.

1) he doesn't want to be TOLD what to do...
2) he's worried about the implications for a future Presidential run...

(82,849 posts)Nice leadership there, Mr. Christie. Are you going to make a campaign issue during your next run about which citizens you will represent as governor, and which ones you won't? Just so voters can be fully informed about whether or not you'll be governor for everyone or just your pals.
