Take away some zeroes from the number of Russians in Ukraine right now, and you know what you have? You'd have a mass shooter screaming about "secret biolabs" that they can not substantiate and giving weird labels to everyone including 16-year-old girls, while they are shooting at unarmed men, women, and children, and what do we call that here? We don't call that war or terrorism, we call that "mental illness" when it happens here over and over again.
Just putting that out there.

(21,405 posts)the power of evil becomes stronger when it happens in a large group. People in that group will do horrendous acts of evil they would never do by themself. It's not conjecture it's a proven fact and Putin was KGB he understands how to use propaganda.

The stovepiping, the groupthink, the panic...
The parallels are all the more reason to act like this could be a social contagion, a mass psychosis.
We can't let it become OK.
There were cooler heads in 2003, but they were shouted down and called traitor. Sounds a lot like what is happening in Russia too.

(3,244 posts)Putin gets soldiers to kill Ukrainians because he has convinced them they are fighting against Nazis.
Trump gets rioters to storm our Capitol because they think they are being patriots.
Q followers think they are fighting against pedophile rings in basements of buildings that don't have basements.
All of these conflicts are unnecessary and only based in perception.
Those promoting such perceptions are the real criminals, and that includes media.

(7,403 posts)It never really went away then Trump picked up the ball and ran with it. Putin saw how effective it was, so he reshaped it and took it to the next step, war and nuclear blackmail. And the media play along with the big lie, apparently fearing consequences and so here we are today. How do you call the bluff, if it is a bluff?
