$hit's about to hit the fan between the FSB & Putin - 5th letter from the Wind of Change inside the FSB
My translation of the 5th letter from the #WindofChange inside the FSB to Vladimir Osechkin. Written after the raid of the FSB on 3/11. The part that can be made public is pretty short and definitely please share far & wide. The text is only ~600 words. #FSBletters
As always, my comments for clarification are in parenthesis. So, let's roll:
Vladimir, good (REDACTED)! The temperature has really risen here, its uncomfortably hot. I wont be able to communicate for a bit here going forward. I hope that well be able to chat normally again in several days. There is a lot that I need to share with you
The questions are being raised by FSO (Federal Protective Service of the Russian Federation, aka Putins Praetorian Guard) & DKVR (Russian Dept. of Military Counterintelligence). It is specifically the DKVR thats mounted its horse and they are searching for moles and traitors here (FSB) and at Genstaff (General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation) concerning leaks of Russian column movements in Ukraine. Now every structures task is to transfer blame to others and make the others guilt more visible. Almost all of us here (FSB) are occupied with this right now.
The bullseye is on us moreso than others right now because of the utmost hellish circumstances concerning the intrapolitical situation in Ukraine: We (the FSB, not Wind of Change specifically) issued reports that at minimum about 2,000 trained civilian in every major city in Ukraine were ready to overthrow Zelensky (President of Ukraine). And that at least 5,000 civilians were prepared to come out with flags against Zelensky on beck-and-call of Russia. Do you want a laugh? We (FSB) were expected to be the arbitrators for crowning Ukrainian politicians who were supposed to start tearing each other apart competing for the right to be called aligned with Russia. We even had established criteria on how to select the best of the best (of the Ukraininan politicans). Of course some concerns were even raised that we may not be able to attract a large number of people (Ukrainian politicans) in Western Ukraine among small tows and Lvov itself. What do we actually have? Berdyansk, Kherson, Mariupol, Kharkiv are the *most* pro-Russian populated areas (and there is no support for Russia even there). A plan call fall apart, a plan can be wrong. A plan can yield a 90% result, even 50%, or 10%. And that would be a total failure. Here its 0.0%.
There is also a question: How did this happen? This question is actually a setup (disingenuous). Because 0.0% is an estimate derived from many years of work of very serious (top rank) officials.
And now it turns out that they are either agents of the enemy or are simply incomprehensible (according to FSO / DKVR that are now searching for moles within the FSB).
But the question doesn't end there. If they are so bad, then who appointed them and who controlled their work? Turns out - the people of the same quality but one rank higher. And where does this pyramid of responsibility end? At the boss (Putin).
And here the wicked games begin: Our dear Александр Васильевич (Alexander Vasilyevich Bortnikov Director of the entire FSB) cant not understand how deeply he got caught. (Bortnikov realizes the deep mess he is in now)
And our ill-wishers from the GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation) and the SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service equivalent to the CIA) understand everything [and not just from these two orgs]. The situation is so bad that there are no boundaries to possible variants (of events about to take place), but something extraordinary will happen.
(The insinuation here is rather obvious in Russian: Putin and the Director of the FSB Bortnikov cannot co-exist.)
(The letter continues but we cannot post the rest)(END OF TRANSLATION)

(32,748 posts)The FSB guy is writing in Russian. He's writing to someone in Paris who already knows a lot of the Russian government fuckery, so that's why he doesn't explain a lot of it. The guy who translates it into English is living in the US and he's a race car driver. I don't think we should be so picky over the writing style.

(32,748 posts)I never heard of any of these guys before today. But I gather that he's a Russian emigre living in the US and it sounds like they're all peacefully working against Putin. I read the 5 letters that he posted on Twitter that were written by the FSB guy. There's nothing to stop the Russian guy in France (Vladimir Osechkin) from communicating with Sushko. But I take it that Osechkin's English isn't good enough to translate the letters. So Osechkin must have asked Sushko to translate them and post them on Twitter.
Can't tell you any more than that because I don't know. The 5 letters are pretty convincing though.

A Russian spy chief and his deputy have been placed under house arrest by Vladmir Putin as the president blames his security services for the resistance met in Russias invasion of Ukraine, it has been claimed.
According to a leading expert on the Russian security services, Sergey Beseda, head of the FSBs foreign intelligence branch, was arrested along with his deputy, Anatoly Bolyukh ...

Russian President Vladimir Putin is conducting purges of military generals and intelligence personnel, including arrests of FSB (Federal Security Service) officers, according to an analysis by the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank, which cited Ukrainian officials and media reports.
The institute said that Ukrainian Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov estimated on Wednesday that Putin had replaced at least eight generals due to their failures in Ukraine and authorities have detained personnel from the FSBs 5th Service, which the institute said is responsible for gathering information on the political situation in Ukraine.
Russian forces also appear to be largely stalemated around Kharkiv, the think tank said. Russian advances from Crimea toward Mykolayiv and Zaporizhya and in the east around Donetsk and Luhansk made no progress in the last 24 hours ...

A number of homes have been put on the market amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Hybrid warfare expert Liubov Tsybulska made reference to the popular idiom "like rats fleeing a sinking ship" in a tweet referring to a boom in houses being put for sale ahead of the eighth anniversary of Russias illegal annexation of Crimea ...

(24,610 posts)it will be the senior staff that takes the blame. Time for a younger, more committed Putin cheerleaders to take their places. Unless, something else happens first.

(26,045 posts)It seems odd to me that theres a dissident inside the FSB who not only feels free to communicate with a human-rights expatriate (who is therefore probably already under Russian surveillance), but who also tells the recipient to spread the letters far and wide (which would, one might think, make it much more likely that he himself will be identified). How can we be confident that this leaked info isnt deliberately-planted misinformation? Or, alternatively, that it might not be coming from the FSB at all, but might be a fabrication designed to sew distrust within that organization, or between it and higher-ups in Putlers entourage?

(9,170 posts)I'm not sure why someone who is actually inside the FSB would risk being defenestrated just to leak statements saying "lotsa discontent" & "something big is going to happen".

(7,336 posts)It sounds highly plausible to me, fwiw. But I don't have any special knowledge, other than paying close attention to lots of sources and, I believe, having adequate critical thinking skills.

(11,564 posts)OK, not really, unless one has a REALLY short attention span, but you could redo the preamble and readers would have no trouble relating to the info therein.
