(39,725 posts)Nine people killed and 17 wounded - DeWine veritably pleaded with the state legislature to pass at least SOME kind of reasonable gun control measures.
What an utter disappointment this is. Mikey wimped out once again.

(39,725 posts)And I hope the voters in Ohio do, too. But I wont hold out much hope. Timken ads already on the air proclaim right out she is PRO GUN! I realize shes not running against Mikey but hers is the typical Rethug mindset. Pro life and pro gun, in the same sentence.

(53,595 posts)State law preempts local governments from regulating the possession, ownership, transfer, carrying, registration or licensing of firearms.
The State neither issues nor requires a permit to carry a weapon on one's person, openly or concealed. This is known in the U.S. as constitutional carry. The phrase "constitutional carry" reflects the view that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not abide restrictions on gun rights, including the right to carry or bear arms.
Vermont is the only state where this has always been the case (hence the alternative term Vermont carry). Vermont law does not distinguish between residents and non-residents of the state; both have the same right to carry without prior state approval while in Vermont.

I like how it is in California. Guns are legal, in your home. But anyone with a gun in public is by definition... a criminal.

(3,900 posts)Cops now have to approach literally EVERYONE as if they're armed. And any sudden or erratic or odd movement, and those cops are going to protect themselves. When will the gun nuts be happy?

(8,863 posts)And a drivers license. And a building permit. And a medical degree all to show you know what you are doing but gun ownership is wide open. What could go wrong ?

(37,813 posts)You WILL still need an Ohio CPL with reciprocity to do concealed carry in Michigan.
I am definitely in favor of us doing LOTS of random pullovers to make sure you all are in compliance when in our water-winter wonderland.
Concealed carry without a permit is a FELONY in Michigan and will remain so for a long time. The FELONY will follow you into Ohio and your gun owning days will be done.
Be forewarned.

(734 posts)Do you think that would be used only on white men? Could it maybe get used to go after People of Color?
Just driving along breaking no laws a person should be stopped have their papers demanded of them? That sounds familiar of another group. Next time the good idea fairy visits ask how would this go if I was Black or Hispanic.

What a stupid, stupid, STUPID law. What will it take for Ohio to reconsider that one? A few dead per week? A few dead cops? Expecting every citizen with a gun to act sensibly is like expecting the Easter Bunny to join you for Sunday brunch.
