Apple tracking feature leads to arrest in theft of AirPods, other items in Harrison, Pa

A Harrison Township man faces felony theft charges after, police say, they used a feature on a pair of Apple AirPods stolen from a vehicle to track the headphones to the man’s home. Noah Joseph Bizic, 19, of Walnut Street was charged with two felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and five other related charges. The AirPods were tracked using Apple’s “Find My Phone” feature. He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash bond.

The investigation began with a March 15 report of an overnight theft from a vehicle in front of a home in the 100 block of Randolph Drive, according to a criminal complaint. A couple told police
the vehicle was outside their house and unlocked when someone removed AirPods, an Apple watch, several pieces of jewelry and $500 in cash.

Police said they got a search warrant for the home and found several pieces of the stolen jewelry, a small amount of suspected crack cocaine, and the stolen Apple watch.
Police said Bizic told them he had entered into several vehicles the previous night and stole a number of items, including a handgun from a car outside a home.
Police said the owner of the gun was not aware it was missing until he was notified.

Police noted in the criminal complaint that
Bizic has seven previous arrests for theft or burglary by Harrison police and other departments.

I have a question, though. Who leaves a handgun in their unlocked car? Will the gun's owner be charged with anything?

I'm wondering why anyone would leave $500 in an unlocked car, too.

It’s kids looking for unlocked cars. A neighbor of mine had his extra credit card he keeps in his car stolen, also about 50 bucks, a car charger, and a bottle of vodka.

When he called his cc company he found out the thief was trying to buy hundreds of dollars worth of underwear, of all things. And computer games.

Police don’t have to entrap people to steal from cars. Even if they did, that’s still theft!

I have read in the past that they can be a sign of drug addiction,
often to methamphetamine.

That could explain the multiple arrests for burglaries
to help fund his addiction.

They drove up in front of his house and left the car with all that stuff in it.

Obviously, he reasonably believed it was intended as a gift, as that is the custom of his people.
