Hilo got whacked by a tsunami from the 1960 Chilean earthquake, but that was a 9.5. The tsunami from the M 9.2 Alaskan earthquake brought a 12-foot high tsunami to Hilo. But hopefully nothing will come from this earthquake.

They've switched from a "warning" to an "advisory." Any waves they've talked about have been measured in centimeters.

Not sure what's going on in Hawaii.

"David McCormack, Director of Hazards Information Services for the NRC, said that this is a "small tsunami," measuring at last tally 43 centimetres from peak to peak, or 21 cm from baseline to peak.

"That's a wave smaller than what you would see in your bathtub, " he said, adding that such waves in confined spaces like ports can still cause a lot of damage, or can pick up steam as they travel."

And yet the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has this to say:

MEASUREMENTS OR REPORTS OF TSUNAMI WAVE ACTIVITY

WINTER HARBOUR BC 50.5N 128.0W 0413Z 0.23M / 0.8FT 30MIN
