This may be the worst storm for this area since the 1938 hurricane.

"Winds ahead of Sandy are expected to force water up into Long Island Sound. With a persistent flow and very strong winds, water will get piled up along the shoreline.
The above forecast indicates a storm surge of 10+ feet possible.
This means that the ocean level could potentially rise 10 feet above normal.
Even if the surge is only half of that, about 5 feet, it would be similar to what we experienced with Tropical Storm Irene.
*If a storm surge of 6, 8 or even 10 feet were realized, it could put hundreds of homes and businesses under water."

We have mandatory evacuations of Bridgeport and Fairfield now. I am not overly worried about where I am (more in the northern part of CT) but I am very worried about those on the shore. I may get some trees down and loss of power but this is indicating some major flooding on the shoreline.

I'm in West Simsbury and I am really nervous. Last time at this exact time, we were without power for 11 days. We are inland and not at as big a risk as they are on the shore but still, I think this is gonna be real bad!

I am in Terryville. We did not lose power at all during Irene but did for two days during last October's winter storm. The shoreline looks like major flooding will happen. Full moon will make it worse.

I am worried about my brother being in the woods in Lyme. He is away from the shoreline enough but surrounded by trees down a dirt road. He lives along a lake (Lake Uncus). Has a generator so that is good. He lost power for more then a week during Irene. He had to chainsaw his way out last time. Lots of trees down.

My husband will most likely be on storm duty as he works for Yankee Gas, which is the sister company to CL&P.

I have a friend in Bristol.We have a lot of tree's and the rain saturates the ground. That plus the winds make me nervous. I'm living paycheck by paycheck. Been having MAJOR car problems and am terrified if trees or branches come down. Was in better shape last year and was able to call and have a few branches and a tree removed. If that happens this year I'll have to wait til spring. Am not looking forward to power outages again.Hopefully, they'll hit us first when repairing unlike last year. They left Simsbury for last during the storm last year.Not fun!

Yankee Gas in under Northeast Utilities just like CL&P and he heard all the gossip. They President of CL&P resigned. Simsbury will get attention right away, believe me.

Yeah, the guy who was the spokesman was caught lying so many times during the daily press conferences. He lives in Avon and bragged that even he did not have power. What he didn;t say was CL&P was paying for him and his family to stay in a hotel while the power was out.

Hopefully, CL&P has learned a thing or two since last year. If the same thing happens this time around CL&P could be in serious trouble.The Stop n' Shop in Bristol and the Starbucks next door is where I spent most my time last year. They were the closet store who had power. Lets hope Simsbury and Terryville stay safe and have minimal damage.

10. Spoke to my SIL in Essex at about 1:00p.m. and the basin area was already flooding.

They were unable to get to the turn-around near the museum.

12. The Gris is certainly not far from there - probably less than 1/2 mile - so...

that's troubling. As locals know, that area is prone to flooding anyway, but SIL said she'd never seen as much water so far in advance of a storm's arrival. The whole downtown area is vulnerable. I'm worried for them, as they are right outside the downtown area and had bad flooding during Irene. This certainly seems like it will be significantly worse.

Winds are picking up and I could be wrong, but I think I am hearing thunder. No rain as of yet where I am. This afternoon they said we could get winds about 60-80 MPH. Now they are saying 40-60 MPH winds. Not looking forward to tomorrow.
