I remember a couple of times Don Rickles appeared on a late night TV show.
One show, there was an actor sitting next to Don and he was insulting the hell out of him. This actor was laughing so hard he could hardly breathe. This actor could take a joke, he got it.
Another show, Don was insulting another actor sitting next to him and this actor got very upset and let Don know about it. Don saw he was upset and said something like, come on man, I'm joking and then Don rolled his eyes, like this guy can't take a joke. This actor did not sucker punch Rickles.

4. I always found Rickles disturbing
He wasn't funny to me at all, he was kinda cringe-worthy.

5. Don Rickles was known as.....Mr.Warmth..
I used to stay up late to watch him on Johnny Carson or Merv Griffin. Loved him when he was on Dean Martin's Roast shows. I was younger then and not as mature as I try to be now.
But today, we must take care about who and what gets to be comedic fodder. It was a monologue of George Carlin's over 30 years about political correctness..."You can't say toilet paper anymore, it's bathroom tissue.. You can't say cripple anymore. It's handicapped." Unlike Don Rickles, George Carlin made you think about things. |

12. Carlin was ok, but too dry at times
He certainly had his moments though.

7. Betty White.
There were numerous clips making the rounds in the aftermath of her passing, at least one at a semi-private gathering. Brutal. Everybody insulted took it in stride, part of the game of being a rich entertainer, I guess.

9. I'm surprised Ricky Gervais has emerged unscathed from his Golden Globe
diatribes. Although they are hilarious.

10. I never liked the man. Even as a very little kid all I saw was a mean human being standing there
in front of everyone.

11. Rickles Insulted everybody
Only time I ever saw him speeches was when Johnny Carson stormed onto the set of CPO sharky and ripped Rickles a new asshole. Rickles the night before as guest host on the Tonight show had broken a small wooden box on Johnny's desk. Funny as fuck.
