at least to me. Much better to watch a video demonstration.

(3,257 posts)She couldnt do it. She couldnt see the drops or where to put them. Its a bit much for the elderly.

(3,257 posts)Was a video. And she said the instructions were confusing and her hand wasnt steady enough to do it. Not sure a video would have helped. The whole thing stressed her out. What we think is easy can be impossible when youre in your 90s.

(35,454 posts)but I promise you it gets easier. I read them twice and went looking for a video. And you don't really need a steady hand once you know what you're doing.

(3,257 posts)Wanted her to do it before an appointment. She gave up and went and got a PCR test that she had to wait 24 hours. She had a urinary tract infection that involved a fever. But because she had a fever, they wouldnt see her without a test. It was a horrible situation. My point was, some of the tests make you put drops in a very small dot and when youre 90+, you cant actually see the dot or the drop. Or you cant squeeze the tube because you dont have the strength. They should have never asked her to do that. She was in tears and so upset. So the whole exposed comment you said is wrong. The tests are difficult for the elderly whether you think they are or not. People need to be more compassionate about what the elderly can and cannot do.

(24,565 posts)I haven't used one of my tests yet, but I am frequently confused by instructions. I will bookmark this video for when I need it.

(35,454 posts)I can certainly see how the Covid test would be difficult for a frail, elderly woman. The biggest problem I had was getting the orange cap off the tube. It wouldnt budge, so I asked my husband for help. He couldnt get it off either, so we wound up using pliers to finally remove the top. Not what I was expecting. Also, the swab procedure made me sneeze uncontrollably. Im grateful we have these tests, but they may not be for the faint of heart.

(183 posts)I'm scheduled for elective eye muscle surgery in early May, and one of the requirements is to bring an unused Covid-19 test on day of surgery. Yesterday I received just this test kit, and I feel confident in using it correctly!
