The feds have closed all DC/Baltimore-area offices in advance of Sandy

Most school systems have also closed. If the usual pattern follows, the private sector will shut down, too.

I expect this will be case at least through Tuesday, and then things will reopen as power restoration allows.

Relative to the election, (at least) Maryland has cancelled tomorrow's early voting.

Note that the Baltimore/DC region is at the southern end of the area of concern. Delaware, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut will fare much worse.

My wife and I drove by two libraries, and both had lines stretching out the doors into the parking lots.
