Just an FYI, I've switched to Accuweather.com ever since I found out TWC is owned by Bain Capital.

On April 14, 2005 U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) introduced the "National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005" in the U.S. Senate. The legislation would have placed into federal law a definition of the duties of the NWS similar to its stated mission and would have prohibited the NWS from providing products or services for free that the private sector is willing and able to provide (S. 786). The bill, which did not garner a single co-sponsor, did not come up for a vote.

AccuWeather received criticism for its support of the legislation. Santorum received campaign contributions from AccuWeather's president, Joel Myers, a frequent contributor to Republican candidates.

A 6-11 foot storm surge is not much. Living in the Gulf Coast, this is not a killer storm by any stretch.

and I doubt they have the seawalls we have down here. Plus it is colder up there, which is not great even if the power is only out a few days.

I'm hoping you're right and it's an over-reaction, but areas that are not prepared for storms can get hit pretty hard.

Your ignorance of the severity of this storm is appalling, when millions of people are in the direct path of this storm.

That is just that one area. Long Island, along the barrier islands; is about 2 feet above the sea level. Again, no sea wall. (I'm from there)

A cat 1 hurricane with the combined elements in this storm would be like a cat 3 anywhere else.

Lots of people were offended by your comment, but I chose to inform you.

However, give a little thought to what you are going to post, before you post it.

11 ft. storm surge + waves held back by sandbags?

$55 Billion riding on this.

Yeah, it's OT for them, but damn, it's intense stuff.
