Was the rape of German women justified, I can’t answer that. I was not part of an army whose country had been invaded, million (with a “M”) of their people killed.

But what I will say - is that the German people were supporters of that war, that included the women. Sometimes, there are unintended consequences as a result of decisions made. I tend to think that getting killed was a much uglier outcome than rape, but I’m a man. I can’t speak as a woman.

Whereas, I am also sure that when the German army was not killing, I am sure that they also got their pound of flesh (to put ugly terms on it).

That WWII was a war of annihilation - on both sides.

It is in fact never justified to hurt anyone for the harm other people have done to you. Those German women raped by Russian soldiers were not the Germans who invaded Russian or who killed Russians.
