Sounds phishy to me.

(16,785 posts)2. I had a PayPal/IRS email
About sales over $600 subjected to a 1099.
My Costuming clients pay me via PayPal, but in installments that work best for them. I keep track of my hours and pay taxes owed after expenses have been filed.

They tried to charge us tens of thousands. This was after many years of marriage. We had never heard of such a thing.

(10,170 posts)6. It's not a a scam if the letter is a 5071C or 6331C
Dont File Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit, If You Received Letter 5071C or 6331C
Follow the letters instructions to provide all needed information.

On the surface it sounds like someone filed for your tax return and they want to verify it was you. It may have been your filling but they can't identify you
The IRS lost me when my spouse passed away. I couldn't file electronically and had to do everything by snail mail.

(2,888 posts)9. Especially interesting since a friend had an identity theft
that involved the perpetrators filing taxes (and getting refunds) on his behalf. Could be very good that you got one of these.
