Last map I saw this morning has Sandy shifting down south and will landfall someplace between Avalon & Surf City in NJ. It'll make it's second landfall at Port Penn, Delaware. It will just miss the Chesapeake Bay as is crosses into Maryland just south of Elkton and cross into Pennsylvania farther west away from Philly (which hopefully will rebound quickly for election day) and just across the river from Peach Bottom.
Stay warm and dry everyone!!!!

(21,789 posts)My brother is over in Wilmington, DE. He's ready, as am I.
Major concerns in my immediate neighborhood are power outages and impassable roads due to falling trees/limbs.

(9,874 posts)If the storm hits at Atlantic City which is was I last heard, it will put us in the NE quadrant of the storm, sparing us some of the rain but subjecting us to the highest winds. No rain yet except for a few very sparse sprinkles, wind now about 20 mph

(9,874 posts)The homes in this area, as you know, are well constructed and they should not be a problem, but I expect long power outages and a lot of trees down since they are still loaded with leaves.

(24,096 posts)and an occasional blizzard that will shut things down (and spring time floods) so I can't really relate to what must be a frightening experience on that level.
Stay safe.

(14,910 posts)We certainly won't feel the effects as brutally as the coast, however we're bracing for widespread power outages and lakeshore/wetland flooding along the lake.
Best of luck to everyone on the coast, be safe; we have family in Lexington Park, MD right on the bay.

(20,687 posts)I know I'm losing power, but my food is all cooked, and I have lots of water and ice and a propane grill, so, I'll be smelly, but ok. Starting to look real windy already, but it's gonna get crazy this afternoon and tonight. I'll be happy if my gym keeps power so I can get a shower.
I think this will help Obama because rMoney is detached from the practical realities and people inherently trust Obama to give a damn.
We are all being reminded that we need government and we need each other. That's a good thing.

And heaven help us if the RETHUGS use this to steal the election. Please, if you can, get out the vote.

(406 posts)Not much yet, just light rain and some wind gusts. One thing is for sure, this is about as serious as I've ever seen the city take an incoming storm. Whole city completely shut down, massive preperation efforts.

(10,303 posts)Central NC is just forecast for a little wind and a small amount of rain. Really nothing much to write about here. It's NC NC, esp Outer Banks, that's going to have it the worst as far as our state goes... and I think it's nothing like what it will be like further up north. Hurricane Force 12 (Beaufort Scale) winds on land ... downed trees, power outages, well maybe the kids will like no school for a few days ... and that's just inland. The coast? Eurgh.
Stay safe guys, stay safe.

(11,175 posts)Irene brought no flooding to my neighborhood. There were a lot of fallen branches obstructing roads and sidewalks, but nothing major.
Yesterday I joined the mob at the supermarket doing the stocking up. My only real worry is loss of power. Sure, I have enough food even if the microwave is down, and I have a radio, but how am I supposed to get by without internet access once my computer's battery runs out?????
