Madonna booed after touting Obama at New Orleans concert

http://www.salon.com/2012/10/28/madonna_booed_after_touting_obama_in_la_concert_2/

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Madonna drew boos and triggered a walkout by several concertgoers after she touted President Barack Obama on her “MDNA Tour” in New Orleans.

The Material Girl asked during Saturday night’s performance: “Who’s registered to vote?” She added: “I don’t care who you vote for as long as you vote for Obama.” Drawing boos in touting Obama over Republican Mitt Romney, Madonna followed: “Seriously, I don’t care who you vote for … Do not take this privilege for granted. Go vote.”

Madonna is often outspoken. Some Colorado fans, mindful of a mass shooting there, complained she used a fake gun to shoot a masked gunman in a recent concert act in Denver. A Madonna concert in Paris in July drew ire when a video showed a swastika on a politician’s forehead.

...... I'm guessing that a good number of the concert-goers were not from New Orleans itself, but from the surrounding deep red areas. I saw her recently in Chicago, and the crowd ROARED with applause when she said, "And do me one more favor, can you please NOT f**king vote for Mitt Romney."

to see an artist that is diametrically opposed to everything they stand for. Why any Willard lover would go see Madonna is beyond me. Like Democrats going to see Ted Nugent.

pointedly leave the dance floor and stand on the sidelines. Can't stand that douchebag Nugent (plus the song is so moronic and harmonically silly as to offend any serious musician).

....I don't want to hear the artist suddenly pipe up and make a wildly partisan comment like 'go vote for' my guy. Seriously. It's an awkward and unwelcome turn to take in the middle of your concert performance. And again, you gotta expect you're going to be pissing off at least half your audience.

And BTW...don't flame me or call me a troll. I ain't no troll. I am a lifelong liberal so don't give me any of your sass. I just happen to think 20 thousand people paying good money to go to a Madonna concert are paying for a live musical performance, not to hear her politics.

6. When a fan pays to see an artist perform, they pay for the artist's choice of expression

that's how it is. Anyone who is not aware that this artist is highly political is box of rocks dumb. The vast, vast majority of her fans are her fans because of her outspoken nature as well as her music and visual art. It is just absurd to claim that she's 'suddenly' political. Her work has always been political. Her work is beloved for that, by many millions across the world. And of course, it is show business, and thus the bottom line indicates the success of the artist's material in the marketplace....her last tour was the 4th largest grossing tour in music biz history, grossing $407,713,266 in 80+ dates. More than 3.5 million attended the tour. The NOLA dates this year sold out in minutes.
Perhaps the Willard fans will ask for their money back, as they became offended from hearing the opinion of an artist they already knew was a liberal. I mean, those poor, poor, creatures! They expected maybe a tribute to Reagan closing with God Bless America?

Next you'll tell me that Paul Ryan's favorite band, Rage Against the Machine, doesn't like rethugs.

and it drew huge cheers. I've never been that big of a fan but I think it is pretty cool that she is so public and vocal in her support for Obama.

Madonna is actually a pioneer as a solo female performer. Like her or not. (no offense to Cher, who of course is the queen of all, including political expression in the field.)

All arguable of course, because Babs Streisand is on the very top rung of this modern phenomenon of heavily political, self possessed divas who control their own empire.
