The Hill: Sandy bad for Obama, great for Romney

Driving around L.A. this morning, heard an interview on local CBS radio outlet KNX, with a female editor from The Hill -- didn't catch her name.

Her narrative: Sandy will be bad for Obama, since his voters won't get to the polls. But Romney voters are so pissed off at the Pres, they'll drive through sleet and hail to get there and vote against him!

The interviewer didn't ask about early voting, or anything else. When he brought up the fact that perhaps Obama might look Presidential throughout this, she dismissed this, saying most viewers will be watching the Weather Channel, not Presidential politics.

Just want you to know that as usual, the Washington "press" corps has already decided on a narrative in advance....

People will see a RESPONSIVE President in action; meanwhile, Romney's wish to privatize FEMA should be dragged out into the light as often as possible - realizing this means doing an end-around the MSM.

I'm tired of their passive-aggressive attempts to further polarize and turn this election into more of a horserace than it actually is.

Give me a second to have a good grief moment. All the Romney voters are home trying to run generators and protect their boats. More Obama voters are within walking distance of their polls so road conditions (picking up trees) won't be a problem. People on "The Hill" don't inhabit the same world as others.

Exactly so, AnnaLee (and welcome to DU!)

But this has been true of the insular, corporate-owned, Beltway media for years...

Romney is not the type of candidate who would inspire voters to drive through sleet and hail. He got 25% of the primary votes and is the nominee by default. Conservative distaste for Obama notwithstanding, at some point a candidate needs to inspire people to vote for him / her on the basis of their own merits, and not based on who they are running against.

1) A significant portion of President Obama voters voted early ... any lasting disruption of services, will cripple same day voters;

2) it is pure fantasy to think that goppers, struggling with survival issues, will call time out and "drive through sleet and hail to get there and vote against (President Obama)"; and,

3) In reality, there is only a small segment of the gop that is so pissed off with President Obama that they would "drive through sleet and hail to get there and vote against (President Obama)" ... and those people have likely already voted. Rather, I suspect, the vast majority of the gop voters, when faced with inclimate weather will just stay home because they really have no love for romney ... despite what the romey campaign says.

...... the "rally around the leader" phenomenon comes into effect during such an event. And if is Obama is out front on this one, it's great for him, not for Romney.

It is doubtful that enough PBO voters could stay away from the polls to turn the tide for Rmoney in these states. If the media soes their job they will bring up Rmoney's plans to change FEMA which will certainly help PBO.
