The "best" part of Abbott's truck inspection BS

Greg Abbott has decided to have his highway patrol perform "North American Standard Inspections" aka "Level 1 Inspections" on every truck crossing the Mexican border. He is not allowing the cops to inspect the inside of the trailers for contraband.

Hence, if a trucker arrives at the border with a trailer full of guns, bombs, drugs, pedophiles, weapons of mass destruction, illegal immigrants or whatever the hell else the Hard Right is pissed off about this week, and the truck can pass a Level 1 inspection...it'll go right through, no problems whatsoever.

The Hard Right calls what the TSA does at airports "security theater." Abbott's shit is more like a security three-ring circus.

A safety inspection is an equipment check, brakes, lights, etc. If the officer does enter the vehicle, they enter the driver's cab. Abbott only has jurisdiction over and control of the state's officers, he has no authority over federal agents in any way.

Most international loads are sealed and that seal is a legally binding thing. If it is broken by anyone other than the assigned receiver, you have to call the feds to come and check it out... FBI and HS and a few others depending on what is actually inside the trailer, it initiates an investigation. Border tenders and POEs are not all that interested in breaking a seal unless they've been tipped off or running a stakeout.

Most contraband will get through regardless of the inspections.

I'm sure a showy bust, like a throw down weapon, will be announced somewhere along the line to grab the headlines in a few days at Abbott's convenience.

5. I think that when gang members

are caught in L.A. the police should approach the gang member before he/she is arraigned. They should offer the gang member a choice: a one way bus ticket to some city in Texas or don't take the plea and be prosecuted relentlessly. They should escort the gang member to the bus and see them on the way, with the promise if he/she comes back to California they will be arrested and charged........

Hell, LA might be able to fill an entire bus, (with guards) every day.......

Fair is fair, right?????????

This in no way implies the immigrants Abbott is transporting to DC are IN ANY WAY, criminals...........
