Sandy's landfall now predicted around 5pm.

“@nytjim: Weather Channel saying that #Sandy is moving toward shore more quickly. Biggest impact in 4-5 hours.”

@AntDeRosa: #Sandy's movement towards NJ is increasing, now northwest at 25-30 mph, landfall expected at 5pm

She's really moving now. I hope she keeps that pace up over land.

That would be good for the South Shore, but bad for Jersey.

This morning, they said it might arrive three hours sooner than expected, as it began picking up speed steadily around 6 am EDT, when the pressure made a significant drop, forward movement increased from 14 to 15 mph and winds jumped from 75 mph to 85 mph. It's done nothing BUT intensify all day since then, and is moving at a good clip right now.

This actually might be good news, since an exceptional high tide combining with a later landfall was predicted to have a disastrous pile-up of water. It may be better for many coastlines if it lands sooner rather than later.

is still about a three hour spread of time--

We'll see...I say between 5 & 5:30 if you look at the rate of movement in the last few.

-----------------

USA Today was estimating 5 pm landfall-- around 2 pm today:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2012/10/29/hurricane-sandy-east-coast-frankenstorm/1666105/

Sandy is starting to move faster and could make landfall in New Jersey as early as 5 p.m. ET, the Weather Channel reported.
The storm has strengthened as it moves along the Eastern Seaboard threatening some 50 million people, many who have evacuated coastal cities. Winds have been measured at 90 mph, which is a strong Category 1 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center. Wind gusts were reported as high as 115 mph.
