Multiple states have recently passed laws to permit parents of school children not to simply

monitor what is being taught in the classrooms, but to CONTROL what is being taught and HOW it is being taught, all in the name of "allowing" parents to be "involved" with their local schools.

Perhaps I have led a sheltered life, but I have never known of a school district that did anything but strongly encourage parent to get "involved" with their child's learning experience. I have, therefore, come to the conclusion that parental involvement is not the purpose of this flurry of legislation.

They want control. They want to give high school dropouts who don't even live in the district the legal authority to force teachers to tell kids racism does not exist, homosexuality is a sin against God and global climate change---like covid---is a liberal hoax.

People who could not be bothered to attend PTA meetings now find time to scream obscenities at school board meetings and threaten board members with execution if they even mention a long list of "woke" words.

Is it any wonder why experienced teachers are leaving their profession?

As with COVID public health measures, it will eventually work as they wear down the more rational and serious professionals who are only trying to do the correct things.

The evangelicals have weaponized the Gish Gallop. Leveraging media of all forms.

Open meetings are fine. The only solution I can come up with is for these disrupters to be called out to state their verifiable stake in the issue under discussion. Like in court, one must have “standing” to legitimately testify.

Waivers, arbitration agreements, etc. People sign a lot of paperwork just to get their child into a school. Paperwork that probably in most cases doesn't get read.

Let the teachers do their jobs. They're the professionals.

Here in California, we teach only the truth and all of it. Yup, and big fat avocados are a dime each.

Well, not quite, exactly.

It makes me sick what’s going on now. That said, I taught from texts which offloaded horseshit by the page; much of it pure lies. So, I was part of the last great brainwashing. When I suggested that Father Junipero Serra and Gaspar de Portola were not exactly loving California natives into the joyous arms of Christianity, but rather, conquers, murders, enslavers, and, oppressors of the nastiest ilk, I caught shit for it.

Details of hundreds of years of local racism in our communities and state were textually hidden rather than conscientiously explored.

COVID has been horrible for school environments and morale. Add to that the general level of bullshit we have to put up with from communities about nonsense, and it's getting to the point where it just isn't worth it. If I weren't under 10 years from retirement and full pension, I might leave. It's not good.

Would like to see teachers leave and start private schools that will teach the truth among subjects the right wing republicans want thrown out of public education. Don’t know how that would work or how it would be funded or if it would be affordable for families. Just a wish or more like a fantasy.

They're the ones indoctrinating our children to accept arbitrary power as if it were all-American. They want to pit child against parent; to indoctrinate children into believing outright lies and religious extremism; and to cajole kids into turning in parents to secret police the GOP sets up to enforce their hate and racism.

That's why school boards hire professional administrators, and teachers; so they can get the best possible staff to teach their children.
And then there is such a thing as state mandates for education.
But the Republicans have decided they want nothing to do with that.
It's a blatant case of infusing right wing propaganda into the classroom. This is all for the sake of grooming children to see the world through the distorted lens of right wing hated.
It's the next step in the destruction of the Republic, and the creation of a fascist dictatorship.
How very much like Hitler, and Putin!
