I was walking my dog during a break in the storm and saw an oil slick. A cop who was stationed nearby told me that oil from one of the leaky old tanks under an abandoned gas station was seeping through to the surface. We're pretty high and dry here in our part of Little Silver--other parts of the town have been evacuated and are underwater--and thank God we still have power but there are some things happening even on high ground that are pretty ugly.

(7,960 posts)A couple of miles from the ocean and a couple of blocks from the Shrewsbury River. Riverfront and areas along the creeks have been flooded since this morning. Most of the Shore towns are flooded already. So far we have power but are expecting the worst.

(7,960 posts)There are two abandoned gas stations here across the street from each other. One was operating up until a year or so ago. I think this is the one that leaked. They did an abatement at the other last year after several years in court. It is an ugly blight on a very pretty, in parts very upscale town.
