https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/4/20/new-russian-missile-will-make-enemies-think-twice-says-putinRussia successfully tested the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with President Vladimir Putin boasting the nuclear-capable projectile will make Moscows enemies think twice.
Putin was shown on television being told by the military the missile had been launched from Plesetsk in Russias northwest and hit targets in the Kamchatka peninsula in the far east on Wednesday.
The Sarmat is a new heavy ICBM that Russia is expected to deploy with 10 or more warheads on each missile, according to the United States Congressional Research Service.

(21,579 posts)We have them too. And you can't find many of them.

Oh! I think this one may have Putin's name stenciled on one of its warheads. Ooops.

No war.

(4,891 posts)Clearly Putin does not realize how his threats tend to bring the opposite of the reaction he desires. And they say Biden has dementia but seem to ignore Putin has just plain, but consistent, bad judgement.

(15,090 posts)Also, was this a "game changer" missile? Not just an upgrade of one of your old Soviet designs?
How many of these do you have in production? They don't just march themselves off a factory line likethe brooms in the Sorcerer's Apprentice....
North Korea does this all the time. Build one, blow it up.

(5,917 posts)What systems we have are intended for intercepting a few missiles as most, not an arsenal the size of Russia's or China's.
Does this really make any difference? The old slower missiles would kill me just as dead.

(2,462 posts)Last I read we have 44 interceptors deployed. It takes 3 interceptors per missile to guarantee a 90% kill probability. So we could stop maybe 14. Problem with that is, if Russia were to launch, there would be hundreds of incoming missiles.
Long story short, our ballistic missile defense is useless against a full strategic launch from a near peer enemy. It was mainly designed for rogue launches from North Korea or Iran.
