My part of Brooklyn seems to be holding up ok. We are just waiting for high tide now. Heavy winds are gusting up to 80 MPH here. Doing ok friends.

(735 posts)That is no joke...there is a reason our bodies are so intuned to pressure change!!! It's natures way of telling you to get the hell away!!!
I have been in 2 tornados and both times I felt a change before it was reported on the ground!!!
Please,Please take it serious !!!

(47,675 posts)Sandy's pounding the crap out of us (I hope we have enough toilet paper). We're in the direct path. I'm expecting the 80mph thing, but right now I'd rate it at 35. It will get worse. And yes, I can detect air pressure changes. From an old Far Side cartoon - "There goes my head"

(63,221 posts)Things are supposed to get worse. Hopefully you are in a safe place with plenty of provisions if you aren't evacuating.
Keep us posted on your progress. Things here in Boston are starting to get really bad, but it's not nearly as bad as what New York and New Jersey are going through.

(22,670 posts)A Barometer that's been calibrated at an airport or university would tell better what you're experiencing. Usually on analog dials you can set an arrow, showing the lowest pressure reading. 966 millibars is the lowest I've recorded here. That's pretty low, but you may see lower than that.
Or you may go online and check some local airport or university Meteorology department sites for their Inch/Millibar readouts.

(21,849 posts)That is the lowest I remember seeing it in NYC.
I have been feel lightheaded and disoriented since yesterday but so far have not had a migraine. I used to get migraines when the air pressure dropped.

(22,670 posts)Seriously. Diver's experience more rapid atmospheric pressure changes than you would from a storm, no matter how quickly it's approaching. You're probably spatially disoriented due to all the things on your mind, considering it is a traumatic event in your life.
Be safe.

The same 'cane pushed a fishing trawler 150 yards out of the bayou and dropped it in front of our house.
Two Vietnamese families, terrified.
We had to rent some big cranes to get that boat back in the water. Took the better part of a week. I think the boat was maybe 70'.
That was twenty-something years ago and we still get coolers of fish dropped at the door every weekend.
