General Discussion

If you follow a bunch of photographers and wildlife accounts, you're going to see a lot of content about birds, coyotes, rabbits and deer.
If you follow a bunch of anti-vaxxers, flat earthers or Trumpists, that's what you're going to get.
Twitter is NOT force feeding content to ANYONE.
The algorithm checks out WHO you're following and what posts your reading and tailors your intake appropriately.
Twitter is a microcosm of society... you get what you put in. Your community, your friends and the things you choose to be important in your life will fill your life.
I'm not leaving Twitter, why would I?

(8,252 posts)They don't retweet a bunch of right wingers. If I see right wing stuff, it's generally because I look for it. It's usually when I look up news about my state, Florida... or look to see what people are thinking.

Again... YOU make the choices that determine what kind of Twitter YOU experience.

No politics.
No Trump.

(12,444 posts)When it was new I thought, "How stupid, what are people going to post? I just left the grocery store, just took a dump... going to the movies tonight"
That's going to be lame.
Then you discover that the content, especially from people you find interesting is much different than the "press releases"
AND the access to famous people that actually read what you write.
I was responding to a Twitter post asking "Celebrity Crushes from the 50's-90's"...
And my 90's crush was a little off-the-wall so I @'d the actress when I answered the question and she actually replied and thanked me. Kinda funny!

60's... I have two. Barbara Bouchet and Jeffrey Hunter, both from Star Trek
70's Catherine Bach
80's Carole Boquet, of For your Eyes Only fame
90's Baywatch Gena Lee Nolin... aka @GenaLeeNolin

(11,465 posts)And others spreading around and talking about every tweet Trump does and talking basically non stop about it.
If the media would continue ignoring him it would be ok let him rant like a crazy old man.

(11,738 posts)Like it or not Social Media is Media now. People saying stupid shit on Twitter, if they are famous, or if it is worth viewership, will get put on at the very least, cable news. If the news is "viral" enough, it may make it to legacy broadcast media.
Media doesn ignore Trump, even off of Social media. Every stupid release is talked about. Thing is, Trump is lazy so if he can't get an instant bump from Tweeting from the toilet or whereever, he doesn't want to make the effort.

(11,738 posts)Just have to point that out. Musk is going to make a lot of money off of this coming "fight" that he is instigating. He is like a WWE villain marketing this "fight"

(8,702 posts)Nobody gives a shit about following. It's about the current un-American fascist owner. A owner of racist car company that had to pay out millions. The pos wants to live in our country and push Russian propaganda against our democracy and our allies.
It's time to leave twitter unless you're full of shit.
I'm thinking about the racist un-American pos LA Clippers owner a few years ago. It's clear some on here would still support that pos. Because they support the same kind of un-American pos.

While I can understand the "stay on Twitter and fight them" perspective, in the end you're supporting Musk and in all likelihood he will be supporting people who spread lies and threaten democracy.
But a lot of people here love themselves some Facebook too. Same problem, different fucking billionaire.

(32,704 posts)If we can't commit to not lining the pockets of a rw asshole, what can we commit to? This type of weakness is why tfg is still prancing around the country & spreading his bile as if nothing happened on Jan 6.
If nothing else, we should at least set a red line for what we will not tolerate from EM with regard to his shiny new toy.
