My melanoma nightmare update.

The biopsy on my lymph nodes came back negative, which is good news. Next week I get the pet scan to make sure it has not spread anywhere in my body.

It looks like all the melanoma was removed from my face during surgery. The not so good news is the melanoma they removed was 7mm deep, which is very deep. I am going to start a recently FDA approved treatment. It's called Pembrolizumab, it's a drug that works with the immune system and targets cancer better than chemo. You don't lose your hair.

Overall, very good news and I am having a brandy right now to celebrate. Still a long road ahead, but I can deal with it.

By the way, Fuck Trump

Glad to hear no lymph node involvement - that improves the likelihood that you caught it before metastasis.

Celebrate away! You deserve it!

I’ve experienced that good pathology twice, once with melanoma and once with breast ductal carcinoma. I know you’re not out of the woods yet, but what a relief!

His melanoma had already spread to his spine when they excised it.
It's been eight years now, and he's doing great. No sign of disease. The drug works!

I did not know that Pembrolizumab had been approved. I had a friend who tried it when it was still experimental. But he had multiple active cancers at the time, in the spine, esophagus, and liver, as well as having recovered from eye cancer after surgery. I think you are a much better prospect to benefit from it and will keep you in my prayers. Yes, 7mm is deep indeed for a melanoma. There are many parts of the face where that is more than deep enough to go to the bone. I am SO glad they got it!
