(15,674 posts)I'm not a doom-and-gloomer about Musk taking over Twitter, but if this doesn't happen, one of the religious nuts who thinks he's a prophet that I follow on YouTube is going to be crushed... and it will be HILARIOUS.

(4,906 posts)that Musk and his team did not recognize and carefully weigh all these factors already?
This strains my credulity.

Elon Musk Thinks Social Media Isnt Rocket Science
Musk has presented himself as a defender of free speech on Twitter. What exactly does he mean?
To a certain subset of the population, Elon Musk knows it all. These folks are reply guys, people who fawn over each of the entrepreneurs latest pronouncements and frantically wave their hands online, hoping to get his attention. Yet even Musks most devoted acolytes could be forgiven for entertaining some doubts about their man right now. Earlier this month, after he announced his intention to buy Twitter, he was asked about his specific vision for what he called an inclusive arena for free speech. Well, I think we would want to err on theif in doubt, let the speechlet it exist, he said. Im not saying that I have all the answers here. On that last point, as Andrew Marantz writes, in a probing analysis of what the future of Twitter may look like now that the company has accepted Musks takeover bid equivalent to the G.D.P. of Turkmenistan, there is little reason for doubt. The qualities that have helped make Musk into a Twitter super-useror super-trollarent necessarily the foundational attributes youd hope for in the leader of a de-facto town square.

(11,767 posts)If you understand physics and calculus (and I am sure other mathematical fields) then you can do rocket science.
Predicting and managing human behavior is something entirely different. Many more variables and unpredictable and unknowable things going on when you are talking about what makes us tick. Certainly, many people can get into a niche and make a good living out of selling things to us, but when you are talking about bottling and selling engagement and interaction for profit, then you are getting into a lot of grey area.

His main goal is more $, and by not paying taxes...

(15,674 posts)That TFG can't go back on Twitter without torpedoing Truth Social into even worse financial straits than it already is in, and that would open him up to lawsuits by investors.

(11,964 posts)His net worth also dropped. He'll have to spend a greater percentage of his total worth to make the deal happen.

I won't be buying Twitter, either.

(998 posts)It would be personally humiliating for him to admit he failed. Kind of like Putin and Ukraine. Musk's ego makes him think he's entitled to run Twitter. I can't see him giving up his favorite new toy.
