Thank you for setting me straight. I might have offended someone in NY which should be avoided at all costs.

. . . most of the folks there were excellent to each other. I remember seeing the crowds walking home after work. Folks there can speak to this better than I can, but I think that one went on and over without any overt (or apparent) chaos or anarchy.

When the power went off, his friend thought the Russians were invading... and polished off most of a bottle of Vodka, they went to check on him and found him just blasted in his apartment,in the complete darknes, in the village ranting about how the the Russians were coming.

He was a broadway gypsy and he said everyone came out into the street with candles and such... they had a wonderful time dancing the bulk of the night away.

was looted and many of them burned.

The only exception was the little market at the end of the block. The Korean owners were up on the roof with rifles to keep it safe.

So... I'm not going to knock what you say. It is terrible to live through though and I wish good will towards the peeps of NY.

And of course the Alex Jones crowd is taking them seriously (just like they are with the "If Obama loses I'm gonna riot" tweets).

Is there going to be SOME looting? Of course - there already has been. Is it going to be widespread? Unlikely.

and looting wet merchandise. And it's not like the stuff running through the streets is nice clean water, either.

I really do not think looting is going to be the utmost concern here.

A lot of their equipment is underground. Shutting off is supposed to mitigate the water damage; make it easier to get everything up and running again.

I'll try to find a link.

ETA: link. Not great, but still, a link. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/29/us-storm-sandy-conedison-idUSBRE89S1CP20121029

Not sure how much, if any, is residential, but it looks like several square blocks at least.
