The entire area is without power, and some people refused to evacuate out of their basement apartments. So those people may not make it out alive.

I'm not sure about the validity of all these tweets, as some may not know what's going on. It's late at night and the emergency services are doing everything they can.

(being a Left Coaster I've no idea what that is) on CNN and he confirmed that the Cony Island Hospital IS on fire and rescue teams cannot get to them.

I am on Queens, staten Island

They are reporting water receding and possible fire on 87th, but it is staticky as hell...promise not to complaint about cal fire.

Still looking for a way to Conney Island

I promise to never again complaint of Cal Fire. This is a large city, staticky as hell.

appears to be the official Fire Department, the other tweets appear to be NYPD.

Our hearts go out to those in need and those who are risking their lives to save these people...

They are evacuating via stairs (!!). Over 200 patients - and over 30 ambulances queued up to move them.

What a mess.

There is some very good reporting via twitter. There is some very bad reporting via twitter.

I have been checking out some other live feeds and a few people have mentioned that they either live right nearby or they have friends that work in the hospital and it is not on fire. Apparently there was a fire outside but not in the hospital itself.
