Two of Nebraska's largest and most active environmental groups are getting word out across the state on Tuesday, October 30th to announce the endorsement of Bob Kerrey for Senate and John Ewing for the Second District House seat in Nebraska and to answer questions about the importance of next week's election for Nebraska's environment. Bob Kerrey and John Ewing have both been endorsed by the Nebraska Sierra Club and the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters.

On Tuesday, October 30, 2012 the Nebraska Chapter of the Sierra Club and the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters are holding news conferences in Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha Nebraska to discuss the importance of electing Bob Kerrey to the U.S. Senate and John Ewing to the US House of Representatives to protect our environment and Nebraska agriculture.

The News Conferences will be held at the following times and locations:

9:00 a.m. at the Alda Bridge Crane Viewing Site approximately two miles south of the I-80 Exit 305 (Alda Exit) at the intersection of South Alda Road and Shoemaker Island Road, in the Central Nebraska area.

12:30 p.m. on the sidewalk on South side of Hardin Hall (UNL Campus), 33rd and Holdrege Streets, Lincoln, NE.

2:30 p.m. at the boat ramp by the west bank of the Missouri River, N.P. Dodge Park on North Side of Omaha, 11005 John J Pershing Dr, Omaha, NE.

"With the extreme drought our state has experienced this year and the future projections of increased drought, warmer weather and loss of water flow from the Rocky Mountain snowpack, we can't afford to have our head stuck in the Sand Hills when it comes to taking on crucial agricultural issues, including dealing with climate change," said Dave Newell of the Nebraska Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Dale Gubbels, Chairman of the Nebraska League of Conservation Voters, offers the following: "The flooding last year and extreme drought this year, both due at least in part to effects of climate change, make it paramount that we elect leaders who at least acknowledge that climate change exists and that humans can take steps to mitigate its effects."

Kerrey recognizes the risk due to climate change and has recognized that Nebraskans will suffer if we continue to do nothing to mitigate the effects of climate change. (August 27, 2012, McCook Daily Gazette), His opponent, Deb Fischer, doubts that human influences are affecting our climate and the extreme weather events we have been experiencing.
