In San Diego, Gay Republican Finds He Can’t Count on Gay and Lesbian Vote

Source: New York Times

A victory for Carl DeMaio, who is locked in a tight mayoral race, would make San Diego the second-largest city in the country to elect an openly gay mayor, and by far the largest to elect a gay Republican.

Yet, perhaps no group has opposed Mr. DeMaio as loudly as this city’s sizable gay and lesbian population.

Angered by his reticence on gay issues and his acceptance of campaign donations from backers of Proposition 8, California’s 2008 ban on same-sex marriage, parts of the crowd booed Mr. DeMaio at a mayoral debate at the gay and lesbian community center here. He was booed again as he walked hand in hand with his partner in this year’s gay pride parade.

And many gay and lesbian leaders here have lined up behind Bob Filner, 70, a Democratic congressman and Mr. DeMaio’s opponent in the Nov. 6 election.

Some polls are close, others show Filner ahead outside the moe. DeMaio is a student of Gingwritch.

How could anyone belong to a political party that wishes one ill in such an active fashion?

Of course, I never understood how all these closeted politicians could hitch their wagons to stars of hate--it's gotta mess with their heads on some level.

They could worded that sentence a bit better, considering the topic.

Cuz buttsecks? "Plug" (har har!) the term you're thinking of to describe that act, then put a dot plus a com after it. Then tell me who's doing the most of the buttsecks.

5. Ya think? Wouldn't gay people prefer a straight liberal Democrat that is on their side over any

Republican. You'd think most would.

It reminds me of my last Democrat Congressman here in Idaho. Walt Minnick. Running for re-election two years ago he was putting out ads bragging about voting against HCR. Nice Walt. WTF did you think that would get you? Republicans would think you were such a great guy that they would vote for you? Not a chance, because they would rather have a real Republican to help them control the house. If he was going to call himself a Democrat, he should have acted like one. He might have had a chance.

8. Carl DeMaio makes me sick to my stomach

I live in San Diego, happen to be gay, and I don't know a single person who likes him. He is anti-union, anti-woman, pro-big development. He even cozied up to Doug Manchester who helped fund Prop 8. Carl DeMaio's partner owns all but one gay paper here, they control the dialog and most of us are sick of it.

The race is not tight - DeMaio will lose.

In a poll released today by SurveyUSA, conducted for 10News, Filner had a lead over DeMaio of 50 percent to 38 percent.

Two polls have shown it close - one with DeMaio ahead and one with them tied. Both from right wing rags.

DeMaio leads Filner by 10 points, poll says

here's an analyst of that poll

another take down of that bias poll:

http://www.voiceofsandiego.org/morning-report/article_de8ca508-1ca5-11e2-81ee-0019bb2963f4.html

Here is the only one that has them close - SD Metro is not very reputable either:
http://scoopsandiego.com/news/elections/mayoral_race/poll-san-diego-mayor-s-race-filner-and-demaio-in/article_2c5891be-21d5-11e2-b29d-0019bb30f31a.html
a SD METRO/Probolsky Research poll, San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio and Congressman Bob Filner are in a dead heat in the race for San Diego mayor. ( A survey of this size yields a margin of error of +/- 5.0 )
