In the Philadelphia area, Bucks and Montgomery Counties bore the brunt of the outages all day, and suffered a sharp increase Monday night. By 10:20 p.m., Bucks County had at least 180,000 residents without power and Montgomery County had at least 130,000.
Throughout the afternoon, the number of people without power across the region doubled, tripled, and quadrupled every few minutes - even as utility crews were bringing some customers back online.
Hurricane Sandy could go into the record books in terms of power outages, officials fear, toppling power lines in a half-dozen or more states, especially New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New York.
Full restoration could take more than a week - through Election Day.

This storm is happening overnight. No way to assess damage before daylight.

(15 posts)Power has been shaky here in North Philly, with the lights flickering unsteadily off and on in my apartment. I don't know about you guys, but power or no power I'm still voting!

(1,277 posts)Unless there is ice involved, the power companies should be able to get the power back on for most affected folks by the weekend. Most projections are worst case. Officials covering their ass, etc.
More rural areas may be in for a longer wait.
