Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on with our site and the hurricane. Our servers are located in Delaware so they are pretty much right in the middle of the main area being hit. My impression so far tonight has been that connectivity has been fairly decent but intermittent. We've definitely experienced outages, but my connections to our servers have been maintained.
We obviously can't predict how bad it will get, but there is certainly the possibility that our ISP will lose power/internet connectivity entirely. So far, that doesn't appear to be an immediate threat though.
Skinner and EarlG are in the Washington, DC area, and I am on the west coast, out of harm's way. But EarlG and I have been in touch and things are going OK (relatively), he currently has power and is able to text me.
Hopefully our ISP will continue to weather the storm and we won't experience any major outages, but look for updates on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/democraticunderground) if we do.

(6,823 posts)the right side of the Latest Page seems to have gone blank. Not sure if it's on my end. Thought the top right of the page had 'New DU'ers' and other stuff down the page, links to LBN etc... just getting a white page now ... otherwise all seems well in here so far.

I just noticed that there are tiles missing from the ceiling. What kind of shitty White House press room was that?

(8,434 posts)the storm speeding up and charging towards us really helped I think.
There will still be a lot of cleanup to do, but hopefully not as much as we expected.
I love DU, but at this point I'm far more concerned with GOTV. This is not the derecho though, we had time to get crews heading towards us well in advance.
Thanks for keeping us informed though and I'll keep hoping everything stays operational for all of us here on DU.

(4,982 posts)That's what I've been on all day. Is this an rsync'd backup server or some such?
EDIT: Ok two minutes later, it changed to regular old DU. Whatever. I don't care. It's been up all day and so I'm happy about that!
I hope EarlG and Skinner stay dry, safe and powered up in DC.

(11,395 posts)Just change your address bar to "www," reload, and all the links should be relative so you'll be back to normal. You can use an individual server addresses like "sync" but I don't recommend it.

Just so you know, I am a government professor at a local community college and this site is invaluable to me in finding and creating material for my use in class.
Keep up the good work!
