General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFor obvious reasons, I don't expect any detailed answers to this, but is anyone aware of
an effort to organize a sort of "underground railroad" for women forced to quietly leave their home state for an abortion? I'm thinking like volunteer drivers, temporary lodging, maybe an "on-call" local nurse----just, in general, assistance and support.
Anything?

Amazon, Citigroup, Yelp, Uber, Lyft and others have already announced such support. The list of companies will probably increase.

(25,913 posts)I hope there are a lot of young women, like me and my sister, who will band together for mutual support if anyone is in need of an abortion - an underground railroad so to speak. We helped (between us and our friends) I think it was 7 people get abortions in NYC while it was illegal here in FL. We'd give them the phone numbers of Planned Parenthood & of the airlines that had cheap direct flights,, and help them with the cost of the abortion and the plane trip and they would be expected to pay it back as they could. 7 is the number of people we knew, I hope these others did the same and the actual numbers were a lot bigger.
Anyway, something like that is what's needed now for poor young women, for the most part. All of us were between 16-21, but I'm sure this would be helpful for older women as well.
