Russian Navy warship Admiral Makarov reportedly sunk by Ukrainian missilesAccording to information released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the Russian frigate Admiral Makarov, which was believed to be at the Sevastopol naval base, was hit and sunk by Ukrainian Neptune missiles the same ones that sunk the Russian flagship missile cruiser Moskva in the Black Sea, off the coast of Ukraine, on April 14.
Rumours circulating on social media suggest the missile-frigate Admiral Makarov, which is the third, last and most modern vessel in her class, is an important asset to Russian war efforts and if sunk would be a huge blow to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

I've read many tweets and other posts saying this is unconfirmed and they even mention that in the article. But I'd put money on it. There are just too many mentions of it sinking.

If the Admiral Makarov was attacked well off-shore there likely won't be video as there was with the Moskva. Until Ukraine confirms it officially we can only speculate.

(13,366 posts)That would be HUGE. Maybe UKR can break the blockade of Odesa.

(3,085 posts)That ship was junk from the 80's, inherited from the Union when they broke apart. The Makarov, while a smaller ship, was commissioned in late '17.
Puts Russia in a interesting place though. The Grigorovich class was supposed to be for 5 ships, but Russia only finished and launched three of em. Russia still has two incomplete ships, though they were sold off to India to be delivered when they were fully assembled. Russia might end up having to renege on that deal to fill that hole in their fleet.
The "Moskva" was refitted from the keel up and relaunched in 2000. Definitely not "junk."

(19,484 posts)Which had those ungodly external tubes just begging to be blown up. It was speculated those are what did in the Moskva.
So if the Makarov sunk as well, those Neptune's are backing a serious punch and great accuracy.
