A fascist is simply one who supports "fascism".
According to Merriam-Webster, fascism is "a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition."
Is that not pretty much an exact description of what the Trump party has been trying to accomplish since 2016? The former GOP is now the AFP, "American Fascist Party".
In WWII, not all fascists were Nazis, but all Nazis were fascists. Today, not all "Republicans" are Nazis, but most are fascists.
The visible and invisible leaders of the Trump cult consistently favor corporate interests over those of the common individual. They prefer autocracy to democracy and openly insist that the "non-elites" just aren't smart enough to govern themselves. And, when push comes to shove, they will not hesitate to violently neutralize any serious threats to their control of our government or their personal wealth and power.
They're fascists, folks. Call them what they are.

The Right has turned this accusation around and has been pre-emptively using it on Liberals and Progressives ("Liberals are the real Fascists", "Antifa are Fascists" ). As a result, it has become fairly meaningless and hyperbolic.
Particularly since the American public is so underinformed as to what Fascism actually looks like. They think it's Mussolini or Brown Shirts.
You know who knows what a Fascist looks like? Antifa.
