He gave a speech at the RNC that sounded like he was the one running for the office instead of Mitt. Of course, he's going to spin things in a manner that's good for him.... Also, he will need Federal Money to clean up the state so he doesn't have to raise taxes on residents.. That would be like a death sentence to a Republican Gov and their small govt ideal.

They all want the Federal Govt to give them money, yet the wealthy don't want to pay their fair share for govt to operate. Christy wants to look "bi-partisan", and concerned for the residents in his state, and to make sure he looks good during this storm (remember the big snow storm he was MIA for - the one where he was at Disney, and the state was under piles off snow)... He can't very well look disengaged now.
