I keep reading about fuel only costing $1.89 a gallon when Bush left office.

I went through some of my old tax records on8/8/08 I paid $4.299 a gallon 6/4/08 I paid $4.599 a gallon on 5/15/08 I paid $4.399 a gallon. It might have been lower by the time Shrub left office, but the economy had totally tanked by then.

That and the housing collapse is what brought gas prices so low. The "gas prices so low when Obama took office" thing is nothing but a cynical ploy.

Then point out that the reason prices TANKED at the beginning of Obama's term was the economy got destroyed at the end of Bush's. Then ask if they would have preferred Obama NOT fix the economy so it would be cheaper for everyone to gas up their car to drive to the job they didn't have.

of the economy that brought it down. 700,000 less people per month driving to work each month curtailed demand. Now we have increased demand due to a better economy, increased demand my developing countries, sanctions against Iran which has reduced their exports by at least 40%, and now this hurricane.

Gas was $1.46 when Bill Clinton left office.

That gas was $1.89 when Obama took office, down from $4.25+ per gallon under Bush the previous year. Hey, a more than 200% price reduction! It's all a matter of which points on a graph get cherry-picked to support whatever argument. Republicans for one conveniently overlook Bush's own "high water" mark.

$1.89 because he was leaving office. When he was nominated in 2000, oil was $10 per barrel. When he was sworn in it had risen to $30 per barrel. Over the next 9 months it dropped to $20 because he hadn't invaded anybody yet. The price of oil hit $150 per barrel in 2008 just before the collapse.

If anyone remembers my "Goodbye to You" video about Bush at that time, the gas signs in the vide were at $5.00.

So the BS about the gas prices was because of the oil speculators dropping prices around the election. Come to find out that the Koch Bros are MAJOR oil speculators, who made billions during Bush's era. So yeah. manipulation, for sure.

Buoyed by aggressive speculative trading on volatile energy markets, the Koch brothers accumulated $15 billion in wealth since March 2010, a 43 percent increase.

And they have the audacity to accuse Obama of causing high gas prices!

where a pundit; journalist; reporter; or show host is available to apply some inkling of objectivity -- nothing! No correction. No elaboration. The charge is just allowed to hang out there unchallenged.

So frustrating.
