I find Romney "relief efforts" revolting.

Last edited Tue Oct 30, 2012, 02:48 PM - Edit history (1)

He's collecting canned food at a campaign rally. This is disgusting.

First of all, those of us in harm's way don't need canned food. The Red Cross doesn't want it either. Their guidelines include the following: "Unfortunately, due to logistical constraints the Red Cross does not accept or solicit individual donations or collections of items. Items such as collected food, used clothing and shoes must be sorted, cleaned, repackaged and transported which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel." DID HE EVEN CHECK WHAT WAS NEEDED? DID HE EVEN ASK THE PEOPLE ON THE GROUND HOW HE COULD BEST HELP? BECAUSE THIS ISN'T IT!!!

His continuing to campaign during this, in whatever lame guise he uses, is craven. He's using the misfortune of others to press his advantage.

We have BIG problems here. An entire mass transit system is derailed. People need to be rescued from flood waters. Children can't get to school. The stock exchange can't function.

We need GOVERNMENT. We need FEMA. We need union police and firefighters. We need a President like the one we have: one who is working himself haggard to make sure we are covered.

WE DON'T NEED A GOD DAMNED CAN OF PEAS!

They truly believe that.

In some cases they may be right. But history teaches us that in dire times, they are not capable of handling real disasters. Just as when people were standing on the streets selling pencils and apples during the Great Depression. The Church did not offer them a job or a way to be independent on his own. All they offered was a handout. Roosevelt offered them a job with the CCC or the WPA. They worked for what they got. They were government programs. When the need is greatest is when we need government.

I have been listening to the calls coming in for evacuation, fire, trees down, flooding from storm water and sewer, gas and oil leaks, rescue from structures, medical emergencies, blocked roads, power lines down, everything that can be done and has to be done by BIG government.

With a patchwork of private services, each one trying to save a buck and make a profit, holding back information to guard their company, would this work?

Of course it won't, any more than the private fire fighters who stood by and watched a home with pets burn down for the lack of a small fee that the owner though was paid in Teahadist land. Those with money, pay up front, although what if there'd been a clerical error?

That is Romney's vision for America, the rich get, the poor die. So grateful to the union people working to save lives in NYC. It is about people, not profit.

I give a lot of household toys, clothes, and extras to Goodwill. It is nice to know someone may keep using the things. But with something like this the best thing is really to make a donation if possible. I imagine they need to come up with housing for displaced folks, maybe help with medical needs - it has got to be overwhelming. I know many aren't able, but for those who are it is the way to go. Romney and his friends, far wealthier than I, should be able to grasp this simple concept.
