on the field after a football game. This guy is totally clueless I hope people wake up to what a mess we will be in if he gets in.

This is the problem: Romney lacks the ability to feel empathy. It is as basic as that.

(22,165 posts)To those impacted ... the devastation is personal ... it is not like picking up trash!

(5,420 posts)u know that it is not at all like picking up trash. Mud, lots of mud and critters that live in the water. Snakes in Missouri floods. Mud throughout the house, the dampness on the walls travels all the way up. YOu have to rip out all of the walls before it's over.
Now this may be different because the water is receding quickly unlike the flooding I am remembering in Missouri. But it's still not just a matter of picking up the debris.

(22,165 posts)I can't help but imagine what it would be like. I am not talking about the "ick" factor (slimy, muddy, yuckiness). I think what it would be like have have old photos ruined, memorabilia of a lifetime. I am not much into trinkets and mementos, but, the few things I hold on to, mean a great deal to me.
I am so sorry for what you and others have experienced.

(5,420 posts)I was only affected by the detour for months on end. We lost 6 houses on my route that was swept away with the river. A graveyard was destroyed and caskets floating around.
My coworker lived there so I got a good idea of what they went through. The flood waters went on for miles traveling through low lying areas. I had to pass the national guard to even gain admittance to some areas and on one route that I worked occasionally, we had to have the coast guard take us over.
Also curiously, many many people, at least 100 who I had never heard of or delivered mail to, came to pick up fema checks. I tried to turn in the names. Seems it would be easy to find out if they owned the homes or rented them but they did not want them. It was cheaper they said to give them each the money than to check out their story.

(3,226 posts)I paraphrased what was said, Mitt was talking about how once after a big football game he and others had to clean up all of the trash that was left on the field. He said it was overwhelming and he did not know how they were going to clean up all of the mess but someone said everyone take just one yard line and walk across the field picking up just their line and in no time they got it all cleaned up, so what he was doing at the rally was doing his part by helping to clean up one line at a time.

(21,925 posts)"...The campaign set up folding tables to collect donated canned food and supplies on one side of a rally event in Kettering, Ohio on Tuesday. Romney told the crowd that his campaign has identified a place in New Jersey that will take the donations, and the campaign will send donated goods there. He told the story of a high school football game and how after the game was over the field was "filled with all sorts of rubbish and paper goods." They didn't know how they'd clean it all up, until someone gave everyone a "lane" within the yard lines. "So we're cleaning in our lane, if you will," Romney said, by donating these goods. After brief remarks, Romney left the crowd to enjoy a concert. The relief table wasn't very busy, as you can see at right, but supporters probably had short notice to being stuff to donate. ..."
