The Washington Post @washingtonpost
Today reporters repeatedly asked Romney about his position on FEMA. He ignored their questions.
____ After speaking briefly to supporters and gathering donations Romney, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and some campaign staffers headed outside into the cold, rainy afternoon and proceeded to load up a yellow Penske truck with supplies, canned goods and other donated items.
Governor, are you going to see some storm damage? one reporter asked.
Several others again asked Romney whether he would eliminate FEMA.
Governor, youve been asked 14 times. Why are you refusing to answer the question? one asked.
Romney ignored the reporters queries and continued loading up the truck. Earlier, during the event, he ignored similar queries.

Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, thats the right direction, he said. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, thats even better.

He can run, but he can not hide.. And he IS trying to run from his former positions, that be at FEMA or other cases where he clearly have spoken about how he want to do, if he was to be the US president..

(7,403 posts)For the rest of the campaign so of course he will no longer answer any questions. It doesn't matter whether it is FEMA, climate change, his testimony in the Staples founders divorce case or the rape comments of the Republican Senate candidate in Indiana or the ad that lies about Jeep moving all production to China. If he answers a single one of these questions then it will be open season on all of the others as well and they all put him on the defensive so you can bet he will refuse to take any questions. But even this is a lose-lose situation for him because it shows a complete lack of leadership. The corner he has painted himself into is of his own making. With so many low information voters it is unlikely to make much of a difference either. And exit polling this year will confirm the extent that this election was decided by these low information voters. But you can bet that they know the color of Obama's skin.

(8,554 posts)all over the media on a day like today, with climate-change and super mega-storms suddenly shifting into high gear. Sandy should be the wake-up call for everyone in our country. Just google "Romney FEMA".
With so many in the NorthEast possibly preparing to make their very first contact by actually needing to apply to FEMA for aid, the barrage of attacks that the rethugs have consistently made against federal agencies over the years (defunding FEMA, of all things!), should make it clear that when a region has been struck by calamity or an already struggling state is faced with disastrous recovery, the relief provided by a well-organized, competent, national emergency service is truly invaluable.
Here's just one article that I read earlier which punches that point home quite well:
A Big Storm Requires Big Government
