Here's a good write-up.

I'll give you the Readers Digest Version.
1) It's not new
2) The roots may be 1970's Europe
3) The Replacement theory basically says:
Those in control of Federal Gov't are allowing, encouraging or facilitating immigration of non-white individuals to reduce the political power of white people.
Over the last 40 years, it's been adopted by Racists and Anti-Immigrant bigots and your run of the mill RW'ers.
It's not a rare belief, despite the scary name, it's probably believed by 75% of GOP'ers.
In fact, Trump ran on it in 2016.

(15,645 posts)replacement theory absent white supremacy. It doesnt exist except in white supremacists minds.

(12,444 posts)Very few would admit to White Supremacy.
But if you carefully quizzed and probed people, I'd wager that a LARGE majority of white people qualify to some extent.

(15,645 posts)question. And misogyny didnt help, but likely a lot of overlap there. Fg insecure white people.

(12,444 posts)The white part is pretty irrelevant.
HUMANS are a tribal creature.
We've been beating other humans to death with clubs because they came from the next valley over for 100k+ years...
ANY majority group is going to get nervous when approaching majority minority.
You can't look at these things with a 18th, 19th, 20th or 21st Century filter... this is Anthropology.
In OUR country, yeah it's "Fg insecure white people."

(15,645 posts)Its inevitable when one discernible group is threatened by and possibly losing power to another. In this case its white supremacists.

(6,148 posts)When governments allow/facilitate immigration of non-white individuals, the political power of white people diminishes.
The only "not true" aspect is that the government does it on purpose.
When white people feel that their ability to control things is changing, they get scared, and they tend to get violent.
White people who recognize that the interests of non-white people are frequently aligned with theirs, and therefore sharing power is not necessarily a bad thing are less likely to become violent.
But one thing that white men have seen over and over is that the system favors them, EVEN WHEN THEY DO BAD THINGS. As a result, white people have an easier time rationalizing doing bad things, knowing that the consequences may be mild. Probation. Public service. In house arrest. Reduced sentencing. White men KNOW that they can get away with the most heinous behavior, and can commit crimes with minimal fear of reprisal.
Look at Kyle Rittenhouse. He killed WHITE people, and got away with it. What message does that send to every white youngster with an axe to grind?
At any rate, I am sure that Replacement Theory is in the minds of many, many white people. Some can accept that it's going to happen. And some are going to fight it in very violent ways.

(4,298 posts)Taking over indigenous people's land by force, carrying out genocide against the conquered, destroying their culture, mocking and weaponizing their religion, rounding up what is left of them after the genocide and forcing them to live on unproductive parcels of land away from their original sources of water and fertile ground and forever denying them the means to earn and provide a decent standard of living for themselves and their communities.
Sound familiar?
