does anyone else support Obama more this time around than 4 years ago ?
4 years ago part of the excitement was getting back the white house, getting Rid of Bush . we were going to make history with Obama or hillary . the campaigns itself were exciting. and when we won there was a sense of relief.
but this time around i am more for Obama himself. i think he has proved himself and this time i think it's more of him deserving another 4 years. he has earned it.

(33,582 posts)I am more realistic. i think he will do some good. As opposed to Romney who will destroy us.
Between his less than progressive agenda and the GOP in his way, I don't expect that much.
Still support him and we need him to win.

(1,095 posts)It brings me to tears when I think about all the crap he has had tossed his way, yet he still carries himself with so much grace and so much class. I will proudly vote for him again next week.

(141 posts)...this reminds me so much of the late, great Jackie Robinson, who endured so much with dignity, thick skin & an unwavering calm. When it was time to lace 'em up & go to work, he never missed a game, he always gave his all, for the team, for the league, for his people, which of course meant all of Us. Never giving up, never giving in, always answering the call.....for America. This great man is our president, and he has earned the respect, the love, the support, the next 4. My only regret is that I had but one vote to cast, again, for the Honorable Barack H. Obama.

(31 posts)I am 2x more supportive of President Obama now than 4 years ago, because honestly I wanted to see what he would do. Once I saw him take that first step in making HealthCare changes, now I want to make sure that it gets a better foothold so we can make it even better in the future. No better time to try and kill something then when it is young and weak and people haven't gotten accustomed to it, so my focus is even greater now.

(13,390 posts)Even when he saw the first signs that there was some extreme opposition, he didn't give up and pursue something easier. He fought hard for that and doesn't get enough credit. Flaws aside, he worked his tail off and invested every single penny of his political capital.

(350 posts)the Democratic Primary (too moderate for my taste -- a fact that was readily apparent from anyone who read his autobiographical writings), but I certainly supported him in the general election.
I might be more supportive of the President today than I was 4 years ago (I certainly dislike Ryan as much as I disliked Palin -- who was at least funny to laugh about -- and I dislike Romney whereas I was opposed to McCain's policies but not disgusted by him like I am disgusted by Romney).

but still i look at Obama himself and regardless of who was running against him i feel he deserves it. the most decent person i can think of to run against Obama would have been Huntsman but even in that case i would feel Obama deserved it.

(7,549 posts)I wanted Hiliary in the Primary in 2008 but I voted for President Obama out of party loyalty as well.
I will add my own opinion here as well. I admit I was very angry with him during the whole first debt cieling debate because I wanted SS and Medicare completely off the table in the discussions, but I've gotten over it.
Over the past year or so I have come to admire President Obama a great deal because of what he has been able to accomplish in spite of the PUKES total obstructionism and overwhelmng odds. Is he perfect no but then again nobody in this world can be perfect. But I truly believe he is trying his hardest and is acting out of what he believes is in the best interests of the American people.
Plus the difference between candidates has never been more stark. President Obama is so far superior to Mittens, that it elevated my desire to see the President re-elected even more. The Democrat always gets my vote, but my enthusiasm is even higher than normal to proudly vote for our candidate, our President.

(24,096 posts)That's for sure.
This time last election I, and probably most everyone, had no idea what was waiting for him in January.
Thank Goddess it was him that was elected. If it was Clinton or McCain...... dreadful thoughts I am having here.
Still support him.
One reason is because the bullying tactics, anti-Obama mess have gotten nastier and it makes the good reason to respect him even more.
Had not thought of that, but 4 years ago there was still some question of how much experience he had. He's shown he is up to the job.

(14,177 posts)Also, I never saw Obama as someone with a halo. I think now he has sort of earned a halo. I would say fit him for a halo if he was a bit more liberal, but as it is, he has done really well. He gets my vote and I talk to people about voting for him. Bottom line is I support him more this election season than last.

(25,364 posts)Voted for him in 2008, however after 2000 & 2004 my hopes for seeing a democrat win were low.
Now that he's been in office I don't want him to be taken out by a unethical scumbag. Romney is a nightmare. Obama has implemented reforms that are steering our country in the right direction. McCain was twice the man that Romney is. We can't let Obama lose to a POS.
The teabaggers are a scourge on this nation. Jon Huntsman was the only decent republican in the primaries and they totally rejected him.
Romney will be a nightmare for our country.
Sorry if I'm rambling........

(3,596 posts)In 2008 I was excited about electing an adult to the White House. I feared for our nation given the economic meltdown that was happening.
But I didn't fear that McGramps was going to totally destroy the country. I was very worried about Palin and her cronies. But overall I figured McGramps might not totally devastate us while at the same time knowing that Obama was a much better choice.
This year with the GOP attack on women, healthcare, protection of the super wealthy, discard of Hispanics, hatred of the LGBT community, love of war, war, war (to profit their corporate masters), I am terrified.
Robme/Lyin-Ryan will destroy this nation. There will be nothing left of it after 4 years. The Senate will remain in Democratic control so egregious legislation will face an uphill battle. The House will remain with the pukes. They will vote 100 times to kill Roe v. Wade, take away funding from Planned Parenthood and give the right for a man to marry his firearm.
But the conservatives will progress many very dangerous things all the same not to mention loading the Supreme Court with the likes of the papist Scalia. I don't know if we can rely on the Democratically controlled Senate to reject extreme judicial nominations.
No, this year the election is about our future.

(25,026 posts)bipartisanship fetish, I don't believe the TeaPubliKlans are capable of compromise and sure as hell don't believe they have anything to offer worthy of compromise, I do not buy that corporate welfare and conscripted customers will lead to single payer, I oppose the security state, my reading of the Constitution does not accept a Commander in Chief has the authority to act as judge, jury, and executioner, I despise the wasteful and failed drug war, I want the security state dismantled, and I don't subscribe to fawning over "the stakeholders", I believe war crimes apply to the tip top as well as lowly grunts.
That said he is my only plausible option and Weird WilLIARd is fantastically dangerous with his saber rattling with Russia, active robber-baron status, and utterly out of touch ways.

(346 posts)For America than Ol'e Fart McLame was. At least Johnny Boy knew how things are handled in Washington. He would have been far less likely to juct come out and do something idiotic than Robme is. Robme owes too much to too many unscrupulous people to have any faith that he wouldn't sell the entire country down the road for a bag of magic beans.

I was a Hillary supporter, although I was always going to vote Democratic.
The President has done a good job in many ways, although I have steadfastly advocated for single payer in healthcare and Social to have Security and Medicare taken totally off the table.
My support turned to admiration after I read two Vanity Fair articles about his decision-making process on Libya and Osama Bin Laden. With the Libya decision, especially, he seemed like the lone juror in 12 Angry Men whose logic and balance gradually convinced those around him to eschew easy, non-effective decisions in favor for a more considered approach.

(6,699 posts)Four years ago he didn't have every teabagger crackpot out of the closet and into the streets calling him disgusting names such as "communist, nazi, Kenyan-Muslim, etc". He didn't have the cowardly, seditious repukkke congress-porks fighting him AND the country every step of the way.
I've seen enough bigoted hatred from the reichwingers to nearly justify a Civil War II. He helped us to avoid the second coming of the Great Depression; but it may result in the second coming of the Civil War in this country.
Fox-propaganda network and the reich-wing teabaggers on the radio ought to be charged with sedition, as they are only too happy to drag this whole country into ruin in order to make this President fail somehow. Once this election is over, it's time to call these worthless, disgusting "fair and balanced pigs" for what they are!
YES, I'm more convinced that President Obama is the ONLY CHOICE for this country, if we plan to continue to pull out of the smelly ditch that the last 8 years of lunacy put us into.

(213 posts)This time, I am more practical but still convinced that he will continue to lead this country. I am 73, white, female and liberal. I marched against the Vietnam war and for Civil Rights. I hoped that he could bring the country together, and I underestimated the bigotry that still exists in our country. Yet our president continues to believe in this great country. I pray that he wins and I pray for his safety.
