In his remarks at todays non-campaign campaign rally, the fundamental slick phonyness at the core of Mitt Romney came through, at least to this listener.
Romney said all the right things about the shared concern for the victims of Sandy etc.
However, there was a serious disconnect between that and his carefully modulated tone of voice and the half-smile look on his face. His "concern" seemed to ring very hollow and came across more as an obligatory statement than anything remotely heartfelt or concerned.
He looked and sounded like a bland game show host from the 1970's, listing in a completely dispassionate manner the rules of the game or reading the plug for "one of our fabulous sponsors."
Maybe it's nitpicky, but one hopes the seeming coldness did not go unnoticed by voters.
