NY-10: Progressive state lawmaker joins primary for House seat to replace Nadler

New York state Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou (D) announced Saturday that she will run in the state’s 10th Congressional District in a bid to replace Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), whose address has been moved into another House district by redistricting.

Niou made the announcement in New York City’s Chinatown, boasting of her “reputation as the Assembly’s most effective progressive lawmaker” and plans to boost the district’s economy.

She will face off in the primary race against former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D), who announced his candidacy to represent the district Friday, and Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-N.Y.), who currently represents New York’s 17th Congressional District but said he would be running in its 10th Congressional District after a judge approved a new congressional map for the state late Friday.

Nadler announced this week that he would challenge Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) to serve New York’s 12th Congressional District. He confirmed he would be running in that district on Saturday following the news of the approved map.
