When we're already there, I won't be able to vote anyone into office who opposes the fascists.

Last election, I voted for opponents of fascism up and down the ballot. They won in every race, from local on up to the presidency. Now we're in a desperate battle to keep that happening.

46. more garbage. all dems have to do is stop ignoring rw radio, the only unique advantage republicans

have and by far the biggest reason bush nd trump ever got close to the white house.

the country will go 10 its left when dems end this this astounding stupidity.

people at the university of syracuse are beginning to discuss the absurdity that they allow the GOP (and kremlin) use their black athletes to attract advertising to pay for 9 kkk stations to spew excuses for racism and now once again start howling that it's mental illness and not machine guns that kill people.

from fakenewsradio.org SU is one of at least 87 universities that need to have that discussion - then 1000s of advertisers will drop radio advertising unless the radio ad industry breaks up that monopoly - once again, the only unique advantage republicans have

to give up on democracy while allowing the fascists to continue to use 1500 coordinated radio stations, licensed to operate in the public interest!, to attack it all day is just ridiculous

4. Link to the Post's interview with Clyburn

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/05/20/clyburn-we-still-refuse-admit-that-we-have-race-problem-this-country/

No paywall: https://wapo.st/3G9ySbp

Yahoo article: https://news.yahoo.com/rep-jim-clyburn-says-democracy-041228150.html

He (Clyburn) also said that the country refuses to acknowledge racism, which makes it difficult to put together legislation in response to acts of hate.

In 2021, Clyburn sponsored the Enhanced Background Checks Act and co-sponsored the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act in the House, both of which were blocked by the GOP.

"No problem can be solved until you first admit that the problem exists," Clyburn said. "And we still refuse to admit that we have a race problem in this country. And it's been there for over 400 years."

15. Clyburn is right. Racism has gotten worse.

We Americans have never reckoned with two major stains on our history: the genocide of Native Americans and slavery. And given where are are as a country filled with hate, perhaps we never will—to the detriment of future generations. White supremacy started long before the US was settled, but it has always been an enormous part of our white culture. If one understands the history of the creation of the British Empire, one understands part of the origin of white supremacy. That said, it has been perpetuated by right-wing Christians, by our government, and by the notion that white people had the right to take native lands and to enslave dark-skinned people for their own wealth.

After WWII when the extent of Hitler’s extermination of the Jews, the Romany, and others who were not perfect white specimens became known, the German people declared “Never again” and proceeded to teach their true history as a means of reckoning with the horrors of Hitler’s reign and their complicity in those horrors. After the Civil War, rather than acknowledge the horrors of slavery, white people in the South glorified the war and made heroes of the enslavers by building monuments and teaching that slavery was good for black people and that they were fortunate because they were fed and clothed.

That glorification of the Confederacy continues today, and it is why we have never reckoned with white supremacy—because the white supremacists refuse to admit any wrongdoing and now they are fighting to teach their warped version of history—perhaps a losing battle, but one creating enormous harm and dishonesty in the US. It’s long past time for us to acknowledge that systemic racism does exist here and to accept that we have always been a multi-ethnic, multi-racial country and we have become a world leader through the efforts of all our people. The hatred and racism will not end because Fox and the Republican Party will keep it alive through their lies.

38. True

but Biden, Schumer and Pelosi are really gonna have to bend the rules, when the game is so rigged against actual democracy here.

Toss the 60 vote threshold in the Senate.
Pack the Supreme Court.
Enact lots of executive orders and dare conservatives to legally challenge them, which will take years.
Withhold party funding to the Blue Dogs who won't play along. Get tough on the outliers and turf them out.

The argument that if Republicans ever gain control again they'll reverse everything is moot at this point.

If the things you do the majority actually wants, then the Republicans will have an increasingly difficult time getting votes. Racists, zealots and the uber-rich are a minority.

Act like you have an overwhelming majority, and that majority will actually show up at the polls.

Call their bluff. They got nothing. They're lying.

25. It sounds rather rude, the way that you put it

I wonder what more he or any of us can do when the racist right has commandeered the power completely through the Senate and the Supreme Court and red state legislatures. Playing the long game over 50 years by spewing propaganda on am radio insuring that the entire rural population (which holds the actual power in the country) believes that their purpose in life is to own the libs. And kill us when they get the call to do so. Massacres will become far more frequent now. Expect it.

And those of us who live and work in rural red zones, who have suffered personally from being attacked by these monsters regularly, whose calls for help were ignored, have been sounding the alarm for decades now.

The people in urban areas so sure of themselves in their bubbles ignored and still ignore this power that they are now yielding. Democrats do not have the power to do anything, so don’t blame them. Liberals do not have the power. The only way we will gain power is to work the red states, really work them. And get off on stupid culture war things. Just focus on the saving the Democracy. And urban people have to recognize that they left us rural and red state democrats to the wolves. We cannot do anything more.

31. Deprived of intellectual assets and prone to violence

red zones are vulnerable to deficits of culture and expertise, and likely to experience internal combustible violence. It's in their makeup.

Depriving them of raw materials or charging them a lot while nurturing blue zones in every way possible might be a path.

13. A fable

A wealthy and elderly farmer had 4 adult children who bickered and fought among themselves constantly. One day, the farmer gathered their children around a tightly tied bundle of twigs. They invited each child in turn to break the bundle. Each child tried and failed. The farmer then untied the bundle and easily broke each twig. He said, " The twigs together cannot be broken. But the individual twigs are easily snapped. You will be stronger in unity than alone."

(before he casts the deciding vote), ensure that a nation-wide abortion ban passes the House. Also, Cuellar has campaigned and fundraised for a racist climate change denying TX US House Rethug, John Carter, plus Cuellar has been the number one Democratic Biden basher on immigration, ripping him so many times on the MSM, including Fox.

34. Are you from that district?

What do any of us know about the local politics there?

I work with many people in Texas and the attitudes there are very very different about almost everything than mine.

All created by hate am radio and worsening religious rhetoric from pulpits being allowed to distort their imaginations and hearts for 35 + years now. What has anyone done to stop hate media?

That is really what needs to be done. And then wait for 35 years. It will take at least a generation to get rid of the amplification of a hate that we were finally emerging from. Before the Republicans funded the hate media and made their deals with right wing religious groups, and the urban population utterly ignored and let metastasize.

And then the urban liberals complain that rural and red state democrats are not doing enough. They cannot act in the manner that you see fit because they then become unelectable. And the republicans seize even more power. And gerrymander even more.

This is what so many urban people do not understand.

Clyburn does. So, let’s be grateful that we have some wise people among us.

Meanwhile most Democrats (Clyburn fortunately being an exception here) are saying far too quietly and too infrequently what they need to be screaming from the rooftops.

The same can be said for most of the laughably-named "liberal" media.

Trump is/was uniquely dangerous. But we survived the attempted overturn in 2020. We have a Democratic president, Senate, and House.

The key will be after Trump fades. Will the GQP continue claiming victory when there is none? Or is their Dear Leader intimidating them into playing along right now?

Beware the secessionists, the doom-sayers, and the "burn-it-all-down"ers.
