2. I would put odds on the ability of a single adult teacher and 30 10-year olds to prevail

and take down a subject armed only with a bat at rather high, compared to a gun-toting (even handgun-armed) individual. Numbers matter. Even a dozen lab puppies can trip an adult human when they excitedly swarm in a group. This is beyond ludicrous.

I think I've seen that in a TV show... so long as you can torture kill the captives one at a time.

Of course you would need guards armed with swords and a crossbow (the medieval version of an assault rifle) to assure that the captives don't all rush you at once and overwhelm you and beat you to death with the bucket.
