(9,333 posts)Many dont even know that there is a House and a Senate and that both chambers must pass the bill before it goes to the President.
Better to say House Democrats passed the bill and Republican Senators are blocking it so that their constituents of the gas and oil industry continue to enjoy record profits on the backs of the American people.

(27,383 posts)Vandalism charges on top the gas gouging charges seem a bit too much for me anyways!

(2,855 posts)The average person will think the Democrats are FOR price gouging. While we know different, most people aren't tuned in that well. It should read "Oil & Gas ANTI-Price Gouging Bill" so that there's no confusion.
drray23
(7,773 posts)otherwise people will think it passed but did not help after all.
Its a badly designed sticker.

(63,702 posts)At a glance, to someone unfamiliar with the details of the issue, it unambiguously asserts Democrats as being in favor of oil/gas price gouging.
It makes that impression so clearly, in fact, that the casual reader will simply dismiss the second part of the message.

(2,072 posts)A mix of the usual "I did that" and a new one that has an arrow pointing to the price and says "brought to you by the Democratic Party." I'd expect to see more of these the closer to November we get.

(19,237 posts)brought to you by the Democrat party, or libtards.
Small comfort, I know.

(21,323 posts)And yes, it IS defacing. Whether WE do it or repugs do it.
We should thank the oil & gas industry for these high gas prices. It only increases the EV & Hybrids out on the road. When production matches demand, there will be a lot more

(46,154 posts)Four Democrats bucked party lines on Wednesday and voted against a bill that seeks to combat alleged gas price gouging.
The legislation, dubbed the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act, passed the House in a 217-207 vote. All of those who voted for the bill were Democrats, and five Republicans did not vote.
Reps. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.), Lizzie Fletcher (D-Texas), Kathleen Rice (D-N.Y.) and Jared Golden (D-Maine) broke from the rest of the Democratic caucus and voted against the measure.
snip
Some of them are some of the most anti-Pelosi centrists, and Rice and Murphy are retiring, so they really have no excuses. Rice also blocked Biden's pharma bill in committee, after she was selected over AOC (if AOC had been there instead of Rice, it would have passed), despite Rice being the leader in opposing Pelosi for speaker multiple times.
Murphy has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of President Joe Bidens chaotic attempts to clear both his infrastructure and social spending plans through Congress, embracing a blunt manner thats made her a spokesperson of sorts for her partys small but feisty moderate wing.
The Florida Democrat is now among a small band of moderates threatening to delay a vote on the sprawling $1.75 trillion bill until lawmakers can know the full price tag a process that can take weeks even if it infuriates fellow Democrats who are eager to vote. I feel like I have an obligation to reflect the voices of districts that dont look like the majority of our caucus, Murphy said in an interview.
That position, along with several others that have won her no favors in the party, arent just about her own battleground district. The senior member of the moderate Blue Dog Coalition sees part of her role as throwing herself on political grenades for endangered members facing injurious votes, even if it means each of Murphys public stands against Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Biden reads like a threat to unravel her party leaders agenda.
The final tally was 220 to 213. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine was the only Democrat to vote against the bill and no Republicans voted for it.

(9,424 posts)You have to admit there are legitimate factors why gas is expensive, chief of which is oil is much more expensive than a year ago. I think theres overwhelming evidence its a demand problem. We simply have to demand less oil/gas and the price will crash like during the pandemic.
druidity33
(6,508 posts)that is the issue here. The excuse is that refining and shipping it is more problematic and therefore more expensive, but really, historical trends tend to make everyone with any sense understand that it is just the oil companies gouging for profit. The demand is not quite what it was pre-pandemic as well. A lot of folk are still working from home and restricting travel. I hear what you're saying, but oil companies have made record profits the last quarters...
TheFarseer
(9,424 posts)High enough to make gas as expensive as it is? Im not sure. Apparently oil companies are making record profits so I do think the anti gouging bill could make some difference if they have any power to stop the gouging. My only point is there are fundamental reasons for gas to be higher and until we address that, we arent going to solve the problem.
