General Discussion

Everyone will be talking about. Yes, even Trump voters. It will control the news cycle.
The committee members have been telling us for months they have the evidence. I do not think we are going to see a lot people giving their opinions. This will not be about heresy.
We are talking undeniable smoking gun evidence. E-mails, texts, phone calls, documents, videos, witness testimony.
I believe they have put together a detailed timeline leading up to and during the attack on the capital, all backed up by undeniable evidence.
Hang on tight, it's going to be a hell of a ride. All of the traitors are going to be exposed.

They will be looking to him for guidance.

(21,337 posts)it's an illegal witch hunt. It doesn't matter one iota if the select committee exposes all of the traitors with hard evidence, how will that hold the traitors accountable?
Don't fall back on GOTV, the Magats are being put in positions of power in Democratic precincts to disrupt the vote. The 2022 election will not be a fair election unless DOJ gets involved to stop the planned disruption of voting in Democratic prcincts. DOJ has the authority to stop these plans, it has a civil rights division.

(111,094 posts)But if one of their own is attacked, or threatened with jail, they will be told that it matters and they will care very much about it.
Otherwise, it is all "fake news". But, I don't think it is a story they can escape.

Just like they knew Hillary was going to jail after Durham finished his investigation.

(111,094 posts)I think too much may be assumed by the fact that Meadows has not been indicted yet. Who knows, maybe Meadows is working with them on the sly? Maybe they are waiting on much bigger charges than contempt of Congress?

(21,337 posts)There are 3 grand juries convened in DC and we would know if he was subpoenaed.
These traitors used encryption and burner phones so getting to see more communications will be hard.
fightforfreedom
(4,913 posts)Meadows has not been subpoenaed as yet, as far as we know. It is possible Meadows is cooperating, we don't know. You are reaching for excuses in order to slam the investigations because everything you believe should be happening is not.
Just because Meadows has not been charged yet means nothing. You are trying to make into something.

(21,337 posts)I know for a fact that Merrick Garland is an institutionalist which means that he could very well choose to not prosecute a guilty person if in doing so it may damage the institution the guilty person worked for.
This is why Garland is defending Trump, the institution of the presidency, in the E. Jeanne Carroll defamation law suit. Garland did not have to defend Trump but he did so to defend the office. I disagree with Garland because I don't believe that an official duty of the presidency involves defaming a woman who is accusing him of rape.

(111,094 posts)If their Leader is threatened with criminal charges, it affects them personally. Until that happens, they don't really care who gets charged or goes to jail.

(21,337 posts)it has no power to indict anyone.
Will it make you feel better if the select committee exposes all of the crimes that DOJ could have charged the traitors with? It saddens me, maddens me.
Day 169 since the Mark Meadows criminal referral, a referral for simply ignoring a subpoena.
fightforfreedom
(4,913 posts)You are acting like the Garland/DOJ investigations have ended. You are talking in the past tense, could have charged. They are just starting to heat up. All the evidence shown by the committee will be added to the DOJ investigations. There are multiple grand juries who have started to issue subpoenas, calling witnesses.
The chances of nobody who was involved in the planning of the coup will not be indicted is zero. If that were to happen we might as well abolish the DOJ.
gab13by13
(21,337 posts)like Jill Wine-Banks who was involved in Watergate. Yesterday she stated that DOJ should have acted sooner. Why did she say that? Do you dismiss what she said?
Steve Bannon was indicted for ignoring a subpoena. Steve Bannon did not exhaust all of his appeals and his trial is scheduled for July 18th. If Bannon is found guilty he will appeal which will send his case into 2023.
The coup plotters have not yet been indicted by DOJ, if one of them is indicted how many years will it take to find them guilty and send them to jail? If a Magat wins the 2024 election I guarantee he will pardon them.
fightforfreedom
(4,913 posts)They are like all of us. They have no idea what Garland and the DOJ are up too. Banks was involved in Watergate. Did she have to search for, identify, indict , convict over 8 hundred people before she went after Nixon and his inner circle. People forget, Garland spent the first year in office doing this and many other things. He had to hire many new prosecutors. This investigation is the largest in our history. I do not understand why people don't get that.
Some people act like Garland had nothing to do when took office. like he should have immediately arrested all the coup plotters. This investigation makes Watergate look like a church picnic.
kentuck
(111,094 posts)The DOJ was not in the best shape in the world, that is true.
In my opinion, this investigation is different from any ever undertaken by the DOJ. It cannot be done in too much of a hurry, but it does no harm to let them know the people expect some sort of action once the investigation is complete. Keeping pressure on the DOJ is not necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion.

(258 posts)But I had to hunt around for the times and found out there are only two days where the hearings are airing in primetime - 6/9 and 6/23. The rest of the days (6/13, 15, 16 and 21), the hearings are at 10 am ET. That will negatively impact viewership.

I think a lot of people have low expectations so as not to "get fooled" again.
The SC deciding for bush, against Gore was a heartbreaker, as was Fitzmas and Mueller... I don't know what will happen but it's going to be bigger than many expect. IMHO
I've been making copies of the hearings schedule and giving them to people.

(32,639 posts)I'm old enough to remember Watergate because I was in my early 20's and I watched every it every day. It was all the newspapers and TV news talked about for months.
However nowadays we have internet blogs, Facebook, confirmation feedback bubbles, and "fake news" to tell us how to think and what to believe. People's minds are mostly made up already, and those are the people who will barely listen. I want to be hopeful that at least some minds will be changed by the Committee hearings. (My fingers are crossed.)
