(104,395 posts)I found this on a subreddit that tracks Q Anon stuff (they're on our side, trust me).
OMG Ridiculous. But it fits the mindset.

(104,395 posts)The gist of it is someone is going around selling "Trump Bucks" in the form of a very realistic looking $1,000 US bank note and telling people if they deposit this into their bank accounts, it will guarantee them a perfect credit score and somehow Bank Of America is involved in this (which I'm pretty sure they are not). The person selling these "Trump Bucks" is also claiming that they have printed over $40 billion worth of them, but $30 billion are left (I'm sure again, not).

(3,234 posts)Reddit is awesome.
The news forums there are the best on the entire internet.
And they are STRICTLY moderate so no bullshit from right wing sources.
Here's the "Politics" forum which is strictly just political news. https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/
It's like having every single major news outlet at your fingertips.
They have everything on there from forums about keto to baseball cards. Their Covid forums are the best on the internet filled with healthcare professionals. I think you'd be amazed.

(3,234 posts)Sorry but that's strange to me.

(8,387 posts)That's not what I said.
As originally posted, it was a subject line with an exclamation and a blind link with no context, no explanation, no nothing.
It used to be customary to provide some idea of why someone would want to click a link elsewhere, or some context, rather than treating DU as a link farm.
People post links to news websites all of the time - along with an informative subject line, an excerpt, a summary, or some explanation of why one might want to click on the link.

(3,234 posts)Context here. More of a "huh soooo..this?" moment if that makes sense?

(189,657 posts)Obviously a scam. BoA would obviously never be able to do that or have any part of it.

(104,395 posts)But the MAGA world falls for this shit like 10 times out of 10. I'm convinced you could sell them anything with Trump's face on it and make outrageous claims about it, and they would buy it every time.

(8,387 posts)In fact, if you search for things like "trump bucks scam", this thread is among the top results. That sets up a feedback loop in which this thread serves as "confirmation" that is is an actual scam going around, as opposed to a joke someone made up and posted to Reddit.

(2,812 posts)...that some of the Q fanatics were obsessed with. That scam is best explained by the hosts of the Chapo Trap House show. You have to hear it to believe it.

(37,045 posts)They'll just frame them and hang them from the rearview mirror on their pickup truck ... or something. It's stupid to call them "legal tender," so I'm sure the lawyers have a work-around.
Whenever ChumpHumpers buy these things (with real hard-earned cash) there will be some fine print text telling them it's all fake, and nobody will read it.

(8,387 posts)However, someone posts a picture to social media, and people reflexively believe it to be true. This thread demonstrates that principle.

(8,387 posts)Someone posts a picture to social media, and other people reflexively believe it is true if it suits their biases.
Here, one is asked to believe that this is an actual scam being perpetrated somewhere. It's a couple of pictures with zero indication of where the pictures came from, zero evidence that the information was posted anywhere linking to a way to actually be a victim of the scam, and zero indication that anyone has "fallen" for the scam.
But, because the images provide a cost-free way to feel intellectually and morally superior to others, people accept it as true and mock the imagined targets of the so-called scam.
There is zero reason to believe the posted images have any connection to any verifiable reality, which is the irony of the apparent reflexive belief in social media postings, reflected by the reaction of others in this thread.
