(35,357 posts)trying a case .they wait until a verdict is in ..and I know IT ISNT A TRIAL, BUT, I do not like the committee members being on tv to talk about their business. JMHO.

(6,319 posts)there are no jury or prosecutors

(129,271 posts)to the media, as Adam Schiff also just did on MSNBC. There is no judge and no jury other than the public. In fact, it's good that they did because it's important that as many people see these hearings and understand them.

(4,357 posts)Job is to investigate and inform the American people of what happened. Its not a trial.

(17,094 posts)I think he was a bad choice to chair the committee and conduct the hearings on air. He comes across as folksy and slow in my opinion.
Liz Cheney was much better in her presentation.

Your reply is reminiscent to me of a former DU member who loved to stir up things by race. She is no longer here. You are way off base and shouldnt be making insinuations.
Do not go there with me.

(11,379 posts)I found his opening statements succinct, and his delivery made him sound like he was talking to the American people as equals. A good choice, IMHO, if we want to win more of the current GOP base.
As for slow, compared to my Alabamian in-laws he sounds like a Manhattanite!
hamsterjill
(17,094 posts)His slow delivery just isnt my cup of tea.

(43,850 posts)Compared to whom? Jim Jordan? Mitch McConnell? Was it the Mississippi Black cadence and aspect? He was scripted, so didnt make up what he said off the cuff. What exactly made him folksy and slow?

(43,850 posts)I have a rather similar delivery. As do many smart, educated, capable people I know.
But my hackles aside, I know there are people who dont think the Southern accent sounds sharp enough. Sometimes being underestimated works to our advantage. 😘

Ocelot II
(129,271 posts)though "slow" in the sense of not smart couldn't be further from reality. Sam Ervin, the chair of the Senate Watergate committee, was folksy and slow, too. And he was extremely effective.

They should all be on TV and give any interview they can until the criminals are all LOCKED THE FUCK UP.
